im trying to make a desert eagle model in blender but i cant even figure out how to even start... can anyone help me?

First, look up some tutorials on the Blender Foundation webiste. They have a lot of good information in varying levels.

Once you can do basic modeling, find a picture of a Desert Eagle, like this one and model off of that.

Milkshape 3D is what I like to use.

I use FragMOTION too, and it is half priced until christmas!

Just try out the trials until you find the interface that works best for you.

Start off by looking at pictures on the internet of a Desert Eagle and get to know each part of the gun well. Once you've analysed it thoroughly, bring a side picture into your modelling application. Now, using primitives build up the basic shape of the gun by using the picture as a guide. Don't worry too much about detail at this stage. Then, select and extrude faces to add detail and also select edges and move them around a bit so they match up with the picture. After this, group your shapes and name them accordingly (I don't know how to do this in blender) for example stock, slide, magazine etc. You can then UV Map your model and make a texture in GIMP, Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. I won't go into animation because that's to complex to explain and is pointless at this stage.

Edit As Conjured Entertainment says, Milkshape would be better to use than Blender because it's more user friendly and simple. Fragmotion is useful as well for importing Direct X files then exporting skeletons for animation in Milkshape.
