Same here, but...

I gotta go with a tie.
Xbox has Halo and MechAssualt and thats about it.
PS2 has Zone of the Enders and .Hack and many other high quality games.
Gamecube has Metroid Prime and many other high quality games.

Edit: I forgot Dead of Alive 3 for Xbox. BTW, whos your favorite DOA girl? Mine is Lei Fang Bounce bounce bounce bounce

I own all 3, all are good.

No there isnt a owner game coding, there are nintendo SDKs, I think, not positive tho, but im sure you can get it (a pirate copy) off of Kazza, or another PvP.

I have seen the Xbox SDK on there.

As far as I know, the GameCube uses C/C++ along with its very own SDK like falelorn said. Officialy, you have to buy(!) this SDK off Nintendo, although I suppose it'd be a bit out of your price range, so I'd advise you to search the net for help on it.

Cheers,

not only must you buy the SDK, but you must have a license to make games for the system, and they must fit in nintendo guidelines...
basically they don't want any homemade games at all.

Its a combination of C and OpenGL. Plus you need their SDK which includes software and dev. hardware. As for cost, NaN.

Its the same with the XBox (legally anyway). PS2 has the Yaroze though, which is good.

Software developed by developers for developers for the the NGC, like a FPS engine, that is sold/given to a company developing a FPS, with out needing to spend the time doing developnment.

With the xbox there are unreal engine middle ware, water/wave software, etc.

Not to start this up again but you could have used better examples. Halo was par, it was ok, I fail to see why everyone thought it was so great. You could only have two weapons (only about 3 worth having), they really over used the level layout (how many time have I been down this coridor?), it's nothing as good as its hyped. MechAssualt is just plain bad, and if I remember correctly PS2 also has it. I haven't played .Hack// but I heard it's good, but ZOE wasn't nearly as cool as it could have been.

Next time say something like "X-Box has DOA3 and Fable, while the PS2 has Vice City and Ico, and the GC has Smash Bros Melee and Animal Crossing."

In theory any console can use any language - you just need a compiler to do it.

The best example is the GBA - I had a dabble on that with C. You just need a compiler that will turn your code into a compiled executable for the consle to run.

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

The Game Cube SDK is not free, regardless of how good you are, last time I checked it was around 10 grand to get started, and the restrictions as to who is allowed to use it and for what are very, very tough.

Considering you have all three consoles, if you want to make games for them, either hack and download Microsoft's SDK illegally (Maybe if your game is really good they'll overlook it

OR

much easier AND legal, the PS2 comes with its own programming language anyways, its on the demo CD you get when you buy the PS2. You'll need a USB keyboard and lots of space on the memory card to save, but decent 2d AND 3d graphics are possible, and you have a good chance of getting paid for your game to be distributed on the official PS2 magazine. Also if your PS2 is online, there are many resources for PS2 programmers using this method.

Personally, whilst I don't really like a lot of decisions Sony made with PS2, I think it was exceedingly generous and forward thinking of Sony to make this opportunity available to all PS2 owners for FREEeeeee!

Also, the Yaroze kits are still available and they are pretty darned cool too

A few friends and I have all bought a PS2 (4 total, ranging from 2 months after it hit the US to about Vice City's release), and none of us have ever seen this disk.

I meant Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner.

ZOE 1 Was ok, tedious at times, but OK, I liked the last battle with Anubis though. I might have been beaten to a pulp, but it was fun.

ZOE 2 Was amazing! You gotta play it! Hard at times (Never beat the game, I'm stuck at that base where Ken has to move you through safely.) but its mostly fun.

I've seen it, played it a bit, it's ok. My friend's beat it a few times, never touched it since.

Arrow : Its on the demo disk you get when purchasing your PS2, under extras / non-playable It also used to be on every PS@ demo disk, but I don't know if it still is, being I don't tend to buy them anymore

[edit] Just noticed you are from the USA, maybe it is PAL / SCEE only? Anyway its pretty cool, like the original Yaroze but more powerful and expandable

I spoke with a Nintendo representative regarding Gamecube and Gameboy Advance SDK's. Basically the Nintendo rule for allowing developers to have a dev kit is as follows:

"We don't accept developers who don't have at least one console title under their belt."

How's THAT for craziness? People wonder why PS2 gets sleeper hits from less famous developers, it's because unless you have published something for one of their competitors, Nintendo won't even consider you.

Of course, the Nintendo rep could have just been telling me that because I'm obviously small time.

Well, like I said, I only really spoke with one guy, and it was at E3. But he was their 3rd party dev guy on site. (Mind you, they might have changed their tune since then, that was almost two years ago now.)
