Hello Anyone,

Has anybody out there used reference images for there 3D Modeling?
I understand that when creating concept art such as a human/character which actually has to be drawn by a artist or someone who has a speck of art skills should draw the front and side of the image. But basically should you draw the front, back, 2 sides, and the top of the head so when you import it in the 3D Modeling program it would be easy to line up all the vertices with each and every section of the picture and the model would come out pretty even?

Front and left should be enough, a top is pretty much useless. I don't recomend this style of modeling due to the fact it is very difficult to draw two pics exactly proportioned. Personally I would just get a number of referance pics and go free form.

Front and side may not always suffice, further refinement in the 3d viewport is crucial,if not,you may end up with V-Formed Heads/models.

If you want to model freestyle, make sure you know or have a good set of anatomy references such as Andrew Loomis's figure drawing book freely avaialble at the Jon Jone's rference archive.

Go to http://www.fineart.sk/tut.htm for examples of useing reference pictures.

In general, 2-3 wiews of object are enough but allways depend what you model ...make as many reference pictures as you need.
