Hey everyone

I'm working on a new demo composition to send to various known game companies to try and land a job composing for one of them. I'm posting a short version(to keep the download small) of the song here because I would like some feedback on it.

What type of song is it? orchestral
what mood is it trying to emphasize? the title says it all...Scooby Doo VS. Godzilla

Any feedback is appreciated

As i said earlier... Defies all orchestral rules, it is a great peice for that.

Very nice tune (a bit short, though - Yeah I know, file size).
Just one very little tiny thing: All instruments seem to be on the right panorama positions (modern orchestra layout, I guess) except for the percussion/timpani which are all too far centred. Apart from that it's brilliant.

@empty: Thanks ...yea i see what you mean by the percussion not being wide enough in panning. I didn't really want to pan the percussion too much because in an orchestra its all the way in the back, but now that you mention it i guess it could be a little wider.

Great music, sounds like the title would imply. Now to find space in the thousands of mp3's I got on my comp (dont ask where they all came from, about 4000 I've never heard of before)

Yeah I guess just a little bit more panning would do.
The first time I listened to it I couldn't actually even name what it was. So it's not a fun stopper anyway .

While we're at it, one question: Can you do MOD/IT music (or similar- must be "environmental music"), too?

Well, creating music with tracker software (eg http://www.modplug.com/modplug/tracker.php3?session=)
So you can dynamically and seamlessly fade from one theme to another. I have a client who is interested in it.

OH now i get what you meant heh. Yea i've never tried tracking much before. I'm more of a sequencer. The composing process for me goes from pen, to staff paper, to sequencer(Sonar XL), to sampler(GigaStudio 160).

I have been playing too much bass and guitar, time to break the Yamaha Midi sequencer out of the closet. After all I did buy it for making game music back when I first got DBC.

Zeal: Thanks, i have more stuff on my site but none of it is nearly as good as this track, as they are pretty old and i was still a bit new to composing heh.

Rustler: Thanks, I use a lot of stuff to compose with, from software to hardware/equipment. I use 3 programs, Gigastudio 160 and Cakewalk Sonar XL for the composing process, and Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording and mastering. I also use a Midiman Keystation 61-key midi controller, 6 channel mackie mixing board, and i use 2 soundcards, an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 with GSIF(GigaSampler InterFace) capabilities(needed to use GigaStudio properly) and an SBLive for recording....The commercial GigaSample cd's i use as of now are SAM Horns, SAM Trombones, Ultimate Strings Collection, Orchestral Brass from Quantum Leap Brass, Quantum Leap Rare Instruments, Peter Siedlaczek's Classical Choir, and Drumkit From Hell....Other gigasample libraries i use are SAM free trumpets, SAM free timpani, and G-Town Orchestral Percussion, plus other various electronica samples. I also use a few VST libraries.

thats very cool. I am not that advanced when it comes to midi/digital composing etc, I do however play fluently on 4 standard instruments (guitar, bass guitar, drums, keys) and have an 8 track Digital Studio (Fostex dmt8vl). I went and bought a decent yamaha controller (i guess that's what it's called) a keyboard with all sorts of wizardry/samples etc built in with a 16 track recorder as well - pretty nice for what I would need for gaming music (nothing on your scale, scale-no pun intended) It served a dual purpose for gaming midi and for regular band stuff. I haven't used it in a while but now that I am back into db thanks to dbpro4+ I will be yanking it out again. I had some stuff I did a while back that was actually coming along nicely, I was like "did I create that" because now I had all these tracks and all these instruments to play with like a kid in a candy store - but it was a while ago and I lost the files. Ah well time for some new stuff.

Yep, a keyboard that controlls midi, and has samples built in and is capable of creating mixes is called a workstation. A controller is one that only controls midi. Heh, we play the same instruments Rustler ...I'm a Drummer of 14 years(yes, i started when i was 3 lol), Guitarist of 10 years, and i've been playing bass and keys for about 2 years.

I started on guitar at about 12, drums at 14, keys late teens, and bass I actually didn't seriously play until mid twenties, and it ended up becoming my "main" instrument (playing in band, doing shows etc) btw I am 33 now. I can appreciate all forms of music but I mainly enjoy modern/alternative rock. Actually when Stone Temple Pilots first came along it was their music that sent me into bass guitar. I love that damn band but that's another story.
