[x9] Divergence (Chapter 1) [Project Green]

Background: Divergence is set in 2261. Humanity has began to terraform various planets and are beginning to discover new xenomorph life. Power in the government relies mainly on the large corporations; and those with lots of assets control more planetary land and research material that they find. It is commonly agreed that BioDawn is the most influential and controlling corporation and therefore one of the most powerful. BioDawn is mainly involved in alien research, new biological research and the S-A-I-M network.

S-A-I-M (Sentient Artificial Intelligence Mainframe) is a large network in which the various planets we govern are controlled and the people are manipulated. The leaders at the head of BioDawn (the head of this board of directors being Jack Mattson, who is a member of the religious order known as “The Purifiers”), can plug themselves into the S-A-I-M network and use it to control soldiers, the economy, research facilities and to commonly absorb information. The beliefs of “The Purifiers” often govern how the S-A-I-M network operates. It was Jack Mattson's fanatic ways that brought about the infection of millions across the stars. Project Divergence.

Project Divergence was created to purify humanity of all blemishes and weaknesses, just as the purifiers taught. Combining alien technology and tissue samples, the Divergent Implant was created. The Divergent Implant would boost the immune system to an unnatural level, making the recipient immune to almost all disease. It would also improve the physical and mental prowess of the receiver, something everyone began to crave. Few long term tests were carried out and the over-zealous Jack Mattson began to give the implant to ever member of The Purifiers.

The Church itself was generally open to everyone, although only the rich and influential were ever recognised as true members and received the implant immediately. It was indeed too good to be true.

Not before long, the implant began to mutate and change. The alien tissue samples had not been fully tested and had... unexpected results. After a few years of having the implant, the skin and organs of the recipient would begin to deteriorate. Most of those began to go insane, violently attacking and attempting to murder anyone who was seen as a threat – those without the implant. Some results were different, as the “infected” began to deteriorate into something out of a horror movie.

Jack Mattson, realising his mistakes, quickly set about cleaning up the mess tearing apart his government. He ordered anyone infected to be killed and burnt on sight. He quickly enlisted commandos to kill anyone with signs of infection. The purifiers who had not received the implant quickly came to the conclusion heathens had done this to make the human race impure. They began zealously murdering the infected, some even torturing them before death. Order was restored swiftly, although there were still hundreds who were infected, but had not gone insane. Some were not even noticeably infected and hid from the Purifiers, who searched every house of every street in the whole star system for those who were infected. They knew they would never clean up this mess completely, so Mattson came with a new approach. Every one he found, he would had rounded up and shipped off to Mars, to a large underground research facility where they would be used to test further experiments. It was commonly known this place was hellish and terrifying, and convinced most Divergents (the common name for those with the implant) to stay in the shadows. Some fled to other, uninhabited planets across the stars, posing no threat to the S-A-I-M network.

Main Story: You play Jake Carson, who has recently come from Station 66 (a research facility on a far out planet, although this plays little part in the story). Jake was called to New London (after the global crisis in 2078, most of the landmasses shifted and changed and New London is roughly located in southern France) by Dr Leacroft. The doctor had previously worked as a research scientist on the Project Divergence, although dropped out soon after he saw the genocide that was committed to those shortly afterwards. Most recently, Dr Leacroft had been trafficking Divergents in New London. Those that were not violent and looked almost human were offered a chance to leave the harsh slums they were forced to hide in to go and live in New London, where Dr Leacroft could protect them from the Purifiers that would continually hunt them. You received a message that Dr Leacroft is in need of urgent help and he needs you to meet him immediately. He tells you to take a transport to the Red-field Hotel and meet Verko, an associate of Dr Leacroft and old friend. Only as you touched down in New London and began the ride to the Hotel, you found out various chemical payloads had been spilled, turning humans into shambling monsters. Because of this, you've been told you'll have to take the tunnels to Dr Leacroft's lab, under the apartment.

(I would write more about the plot, but you really have to play to find out more )

Thanks for the commments guys.

@C.R. I've been doing a lot of writing over the past fews years (nothing serious ofc) and I think FPSC is an excellent platform for a story-driven game.

Sorry progress is slow at the moment sadly. Some of my voice actors have pulled out some I'm going to need to find some more. Currently I'm working on some huds and loading screens.
