Hi,
just wondering if anyone has bought the latest edition of 3d world?
[href]www.3dworldmag.com[/href]
it says it comes with cinema 4d - without any watermarks or anything - I'm just wondering if anybody who does have the magazine can tell me if it really is a fully functional version - ie. you can export to 3ds format or something else which can be converted into .x, because if so then i would definitely buy it...just thought i'd check before i go to buy it
thanks
Robin

It's resolution limited, max render size of 600x400 pixels but is otherwise the full version of Cinema 4D CE. The best part of the mag is the fact you can upgrade to the full version of XL6 for just £79 which is a bloody bargain no matter how you look at it.

Cheers,

Rich

oh i just thought of something - do you know if you're allowed to use models you've made in commercial games - (i suppose not)

Just saw that you can get the same program on the cover disk of 'computer arts' magazine too, which costs the same as 3d world (£6.00):

I just bought 3d world magazine and have been playing around with it. It requires registration (Free) after 3 months.

The CE stands for Covermount Edition.

It will export .x models but unfortunatley these don't contain animation. In fact the only save format that retains animation data is it's own proprietry .c4d format. Even 3d exploration can't read these so it's only good for static models.

The Licence agreement makes no referance to models produced using this software. I would assume that this means that you are free to use your creations as you see fit. If you're really going to sell your program/models, I'd check with Cinema4D by e-mail.

Hope that helps

Cinema 4D is made by Maxon - [href]www.maxon.de[/href] in you need to get in touch.
I got the V5 SE version about 12 months ago on a cover CD - no limitations on what you do with the models you make. Let's face it, they can't exactly track 3ds or obj models once you've exported them, it would be a silly restriction to impose.

Maxon seem to be a decent bunch, AFAIK they were the first to give away a full, decent version of professional 3D modelling software. TruSpace have done it in the past, but they are/were in a different league.

One thing to be aware of - C4D nurbs are not "normal" nurbs, it's their own version.

C4D also has big problems with texture seams when exporting an object that used spherical mapping (this is a major downside that even their top package suffers from). Otherwise it's great! You can export animations in VRML2 format which some of the more expensive convertors can handle.
