I think moving enemies is the BEST thing that can happen, currently enemies move roboticly and some running models could look great

Thanks Daniel for the reply. There was a DBPro user that had initial difficulties with getting them in there awhile back.

Thanks, I've saved this image for future reference. I think it would be neat to make large static boss characters. Medusa-like creatures or something like Mother Brain from Metroid. The kind that pulse or thrash faster the more damage they take. Plus 1.17 will have a REALLY neat new feature for this kind of thing. But I can't talk about that yet.

I truly think any type of Quake 4 based character would be superb and substantially useful for FPSC; especially since I've always considered your Blade Seeker character, Bond, to be one of my favorite and most used of your creations - and yet he's always been so lonely! There isn't too many other characters out there, neither by yourself or anyone for that matter, that really goes well with it unfortunately.

As well, anything like a Revenant, Ticker or Seeder would be splendid.

Just thought I'd, give my two cents in this little inspirational thread whether it matters or not hah. Also, I must agree with you Bond on the static boss characters concept: Anything like the Storyent Processing Creature from Quake 4 or even somethig grotesque like Governor Cassus Vicus from Jericho would be quite wonderful.

To be honest though - my biggest votes would be on creatures reminiscent of the ones found in The Suffering I and II. Ok I'm done

Cheers

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

The Blade Seeker was never very popular, not sure why. The spinning blade attack was cool, but maybe the character was just a little goofy looking, who knows.

The Suffering had some great creepy characters, I'll need to dig that game back out and play it again. And rip off their designs.

I have this book called "The Making of Doom 3". It's amazing the amount of work that went into those characters, they'd spend nearly half a year on a single character. It's a great read, not just for the artwork, but how that game engine was built, no one had done anything like it before.

I've been wanting something like this for quite some time. Especial a large demon that is halfway out of the ground (from the waist up) and attacks you with a long reach.

I've been playing through HL2 again, I haven't played it in years. I forgot just how good it is. How is it possible even after all this time that it's SO much better than every other game on the planet?

The immersive story and just fun to play

A nice idea would be some 3 segment big mutants/aliens that cant move but attack you with all sorts of stuff and they have stage damage(at 80% health an arm falls off etc.)

id love to see some more sci fi it seems to have drifted out of peoples views recently. hell id really like more ww2 stuff like more varieties in different countries uniforms instead of the basic too..... or you could make some zombie ones everyone loves zombies and i see on the forum some people are making a nazi zombie mod.

Hope you can bring some of those big bosses you speak of out with working scripts for x10... then i will love you... as i miss the head cutting off brute

Ah you've reminded me of an awesome boss encounter in an older game now, Timesplitters: Future Perfect! Loved that game! There was a boss just at the end of the haunted mansion level, almost exactly like your description Nickydude; if anyone here remembers that game, you should know just what I'm talking about

Quote: "The Suffering had some great creepy characters, I'll need to dig that game back out and play it again. And rip off their designs."

Please! That would be absolutely amazing! And I had no idea id spent that much time on characters for Doom 3 though, that's actually fascinating; considering the fact that the game was in development for 6 years or however long it was, it was easy to see the leap it made in games which was uncanny - the new id Tech 5 engine they'll be introducing with Doom 4 will just be out of this world

But yes, your Blade Seeker is still to this day one of my most beloved characters to use; his opening when the player comes into range is splendid, between the spinning blade and the very atmospheric robotic cry he makes.

Cheers

I'm just getting too excited here, hopefully Bond is hastily taking down notes and ideas

Seriously though, Bond we do really appreciate all the hard work you put into every single one of your creations. You've continuously helped FPSC expand and leap by bounds to new generations and possibilities; the zombie apocalypse pack just another benchmark of your talent and progress to make this program truly the number one way to get into video game development!

Cheers

Thanks Braden! Yeah I liked that too, with a proper creepy level, that intro can be bone-chilling. That character desparately needs some shader-love. Normal mapped, with cubemap reflections on the faceplate and blade, with illumination on the eyes and torso bits would look really cool.

Thanks Mr. Game for starting this thread, and everyone else for all the enthusiasm and ideas, it rubs off on me and keeps me going. This is why I love this community. A scifi/horror themed character pack will be my next project. Hopefully v1.17 will come out in the meantime, because there will be some REALLY cool new features that I can use that will blow your mind.

Off Topic, Please get your Zombie pack on sale D:
On Topic,

On the Sci-Fi Horror, try making small enemies like headcrab style. Not Headcrabs but more or less the baby aliens from the movie, Alien.

Yeah, got it earlier today. Thanks for the help! I never would have figured out the shaders don't work without all 4 maps. It's a shame though. Seems like a waste of valuable memory to have to have duplicate maps for each entity

Yeah it's wierd how FPSC handles textures. I don't think those are actually LOADED into memory during the game, just that they need to be present so FPSC knows which one to use. But it does use disk space nonetheless.

That cloverfield dude IS really cool. TGC is giving me a bit of freelance work, so that will hopefully give me some funds to upgrade to 3ds Max 2010/2011, which has a new set of character animation tools for animating non-biped characters, making my job easier and faster for this new pack.

Nickydude: Cloverfield is a hit in my book However I feel that the other monsters are more fantasy than sci-fi. They would fit a Lord of the Rings or Eragon scene better than a futuristic and possibly apocalyptic/dystopic world.

In my crazy mind I imagine a cyberpunk style future that would fit this neon sign. It could be a world where oppressive governments rule. 90% of the population has been killed by war, famine and disease. Insane genetic research projects are developed on space stations and tested on unfortunate people. Rebel groups try to hack through the system and uncover hidden truths while government AI’s try to counter this activity. Aliens are a possibility but manipulated humans and AI’s are more interesting to me. MP22 (the gore pack) is a great example of a pack that would fit a disturbed world like this. In the Mass Effect series they have given people biotic abilities which works quite well even though it is a bit fantasy-like in some forms. Where am I going with all this… I don’t really know but I hope it provides at least some inspiration

I know this sounds really weird, and... not so huge as all the other stuff, but some mutanted babies would be really awesome. Really. I mean, like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abcsZZ9Duxw but alive, of course, and so they'd have different variations which would have different speeds (some that would just jump at the player from a vent and run somehow disturbingly, and some that would slowly crawl from a hallway, having seizures when doing so, etc)... That'd be cool as heck. And it would scare the living crap out of those who'd play a game with that.
...But the horrible pain in the butt known as ESRB, wouldn't allow that sorta things be sold...
And of course, Bond1 is probably too busy making other stuff and probably not f-ed up enough to do stuff like this, at least I'd understand if he isn't.

The only problem with big, stationary bosses is that they'd get repetitive. No amount of scripting and modeling can get past the fact that everyone will use it, and it'll become stale. I know I would hate to see every other game use the same boss.

Wow. If I thougt of this kinda thread before, I've drew so much freaky things, that nobody can imagine. But your drawing looks great too. Did you make it with computer (1st one) or did you use the good old paper and pen. That's what I use.

@Bond1- Condemned Enemies: Crazed Hobo's and Bums, with your shaders and custom sprint/attack animations! That would be bad (3 Letter Word)!!! I'd pay $100.00 for something like that!!!

Ooor...Regular hobos and bums!

Like you walk up to them, and they ask for change! Then you kill them of course.

I think greek mythology would be great...But more mosnter-ish. Like the last greek mythology pack was all humanoid. Make a Chimera. Or a Scylla. Or something better than a minotaur.
