start with something much much smaller, fps's are very hard if your new

a remake of something simple like tetris has a few components to learn about coding and is light on the art scale since its a simple cube shape for the main peices of the game.

what i found helpful was making my own versions of the help files and working through all the tutorials

change enough to make it your own

when you’ve done that a FPS isn’t such a daunting task, in fact one of the tutorials walks ya through it

there is a very clever FPS in the 20line contest (i think it may have won one month?)

learn from that

yep, learn it by typing out the code yourself - an fps is a big project even for an experienced programmer.

tetris you say? can anyone point me in the direction of sample tetris-style code or a tutorial? that would be great. and yeah, after i went over a bunch of the examples, i too have decided that an FPS is not the thing to start out with considering my programming knowledge. thanks.
