How does the .x txt file work? I can get the model loaded in wings3D, Milkshape and anim8tor, but i can't get it's animation to work.
HELP!

The text file is just a guide for you when programming, so you can use "loop object" without having to guess where the walk starts and ends.

The .x file already stores all the animations.

If you want to change the animations, I think .3DS is your best bet for compatibility. I've only really used Max for limbed animation, but I'm sure there's free modellers out there that support animation with .3DS files.

Ohh, and once you have your amended .3DS file - only use the converter supplied with DB to convert it - 3D Exp had major issues converting.

you can use gmax (simpler version of 3d studio) created specially for developing game models and other game stuff. gmax reads files from originally 3d max (including .3DS) and, what's most important, has similar interface and is totaly free.

Run the alien demo. Not only can you view the animations, you can look at the code as see how the frame start and stop points are set.
