is it possible to create a program that will run in the background (without a window) in the DarkGDK? is it possible for it to still get commands (like from the keyboard) without having a window or having a different window open?

well, in theory, long answer short, Yes. but why?

why not just create a console app that runs on the background.

why dont you just use API, or console app? you wont need the directx stuff since you wont show the window
