Alright i know I posted dozens of annoying problems about my pc. But this time my computer is just messed. It won't start up saying the C drive won't register. I have tried FDISK but it gives me a "error reading disk" message, i have also tried reinstalling Windows but i get an error there too. Any one know wat wrong? I'll greatly appriciate it cause I am getting my upgrade tommoro( AMD Athlon 1800+) and i need my harddrive working.

thanks

Your hard drive could have gone complely, or the MFT is corrupt or you've got a loose cable.

yep sounds like your hdd is on the way out.

try:
reseating the ide and power cables on the hdd
check if the hdd is hot, if it is, stick it in the frigde until it's almost cold and put it back in the comp, it might actually work for a little while, then it will fail once it's heated up
if your computer is new and came with xp built in, then your hdd is ntfs, fdisk wont detect the partition and render it a blank drive.
get a demo of ntfsdos (read) if you have ntfs it will allow you to see the contents of the drive.
to diagnose the drive get a dos boot program called eurosoft pccheck (they have to email you the demo) if you go in the hdd options and do a full check. if you get 0,0,0,0 it means the hdd is dead.

i think i've covered every possibly way.

usually the manufacturer of the HD has utils on their site. Find the make and model and see if they offer utils for your drive. If so these utils can determine if the drive is alive, half-dead, or dead. Please note that half-dead is as bad as dead...

sorry

Why only 20Gb - you should be able to get around 40Gb for more or less the same price.

i dont think you can buy 20gb's anymore unless the businesses are clearing them out (end of line)

megatron shop around on major online shops and see if you can pickup a bargain!

anything under 60 gig these days is pushing it IMHO

Western Digital drives are great, based on my years of experience with them.

You can get 40gb hard drives for $30 if you look around a bit. Try pricewatch.com.

EBuyer is a good one, as long as you go for brand names.

I hope to be getting a 300Gb one soon, so I can start re-installing my games again (getting it mainly for Halo & Unreal 2004).

ah it's a program i made ages ago when dbpro came out. only reason why it dont get plugged now is because no one cares about it.

anyway back to your hdd discussion.

if you have your new hdd test it with various benchmarking software see if it's upto scratch.
