hi all,
i was inspired by the space invaders compo
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=172295&b=11
after i was mostly finished with my entry,
i turned it into this.

This game has been edited, for looks and performance
Download The New Version Here

Youtube Video

another Youtube Video

* the aliens move differently than the original Space Invaders,
and there is something different on every wave.

* There are 16 waves, each with their own names and themes.
This means that it is possible to *win* the game!

* You now have a blue shield that you can't destroy but the aliens can. it is restored each wave.

* you also have a red bar at the bottom of the screen, representing your planet.
if this bar is ever reduced below 5%, the game will end.
the planet repairs a little after each wave.

* extra life awarded every 4000 points.

* you can fire up to 9 shots at once, depending on wave and game speed.

* your movement wraps around side to side on odd numbered waves,
and you are blocked on even levels (just like the invaders).

* The game is harder now. The early levels are still easy, but it gets frantic later on.

* New beautiful background inspired by some code from Jammy,
another competitor in the space invaders compo.

* There is now an option to turn on "Power-Ups", using a config file.
It's a text file, where the first line either says 'power ups on' or 'power ups off'.
The default option is OFF.
To get a power up, finish a wave without losing a laser cannon.
There are 2 power-ups available.

controls
[right]/[left] arrow keys
[space] to fire
[P] to Pause
[S] to Stop Sound
[W] to toggle Window Mode

This is pretty cool.
Suggestions...
-Could you make it a little harder, but allow 2 bullets to be on the field at once? I couldn't ever hit anything that I wanted to, I just had to shoot and move.
-Maybe the player could wrap around too? That threw me off for a second because (most) enemies did.
-Although less practical, this is one of those games that could be great as a multiplayer game. One player gets A and D, the other the arrow keys and whala! (But you would have to change the firing key.)
Anyways I thought this was really clever.

hey, thanks, swissolo ,
those are all good ideas.

if you play up to level 6,
it gets really hard.

i'll try taking away the shield on lower levels...

sure you or anyone else can use any code, model, texture etc. of mine that you find about these forums for any project they want.

No need for any credits unless you try and make money from them then it is only polite.

The Compos and forums, in my opinion are to encourage learning and co-operation which seems to be encouraged by TGC.

Looks good

Hey, I'm impressed. I love how you can take a simple idea and create a complete game. Keep up the good work.

Scored 34300. Got a bit frantic at the end. Died on a level called random momentum. Very good, pity I had killed my hand before I realised it had autofire Nice twist on your entry.

This is a very fun version, have you considered reworking the graphics, giving it a different name, then submitting it to the Intel AppUp competition? Intel and TGC are looking for simple, addictive games just like this to join the competition.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=173613&b=40 for more information, you could win a $5000 holiday, $1000 cash prize or a new netbook.
