Hello

This is my first post since starting my first game

So i was reading a couple of the flashlight scripts here on FPSC Forums. And i was thinking - Would it be possible to just attach a light source to the player that can be turned on and off with the f key? It seems very simple but i have no idea how i would be about doing it. If anyone knows how this could be made into a reality - Please let me know!

Thanks In Advance

I think in the TGC Store Errant AI (EAI) Sells some guns with flashlights attatched, like the M9, which has the normal verison, the silenced version, the flaslight version, and the combo version.

Each version of the M9 is 200 points. (2$)

I'm pretty sure he has it for other guns too though.

With a bit of scripting, I think you could make it switch the flashlight on and off.

It's possible with Project Blue which allows you to attach a light to the player.

You can't in Airmod.

No, in stock FPSC you cannot move lights.

You can however do it with mods. In Fenix mod there are specific commands for them, just like in PB.

@Marc

Just in case you didn't know Hockeykid moved all of the fenix flashlight commands into PB without telling us.

I agree

Who the hell is General Failure? And why is he trying to read my hard disk?

My software never has bugs. It just develops random features.

Yes, but when you reload, the light doesn't move, when the gun moves, the light doesn't move. I don't think we'll have a realistic flashlight (L4D is a great example) for a long time at this rate.

You could just say you have the light on a hemet or shrit (like uncharted)

They were just asking for a simple flashlight, not one attached to the gun. And creating a realistic flashlight is entirely possible (with Project Blue anyway). Attach a cone entity to the player with a transparent texture and then bind a light to the center. This will force the light into a cone shape. If you wanted to go a step further and make the flashlight rotate to follow the gun's angle, that's simple to do to by tracking the entity's internal angle and positioning variables.

Always think twice before posting sceptical comments about FPSC. You'd be suprised what you can do with a little creativity.

Didn't I already tell you I have PB?

C'mon Marc... I just misunderstood what he said, I thought he meant something like L4D, realistic.

Quote: "Attach a cone entity to the player with a transparent texture and then bind a light to the center. This will force the light into a cone shape."

And I've already done that, but I was talking about a flashlight that looks realistic, acts real, casts shadows, etc...

Plus, I didn't even mean offense, no need to get too defensive

And one last thing.... I always think thrice.

Well done for getting that far, it's probably further than most people got.

In that sense you're right, a feature like that would need to specifically be hardcoded into the engine. I always thought the Left4Dead flashlights looked pretty cool.

None taken.

Sorry Marc, but your cone idea would only work with static lights... which wouldn't make for a very good flashlight anyway, lol. As it is now, dynamic lights do not cast shadows, which is what you would need them to do for the light to be restricted into a cone.

The way I did it was to just attach a cone of light to wherever the 'light source' on the weapon is. It didn't create a good effect, but it turned out ok.
