I am trying to get to grips with Milkshape 3D. I have knocked up a very simple box model that I am using to represent a city in my strategy game. Here is a picture:

My question is, how do I texture this? At the moment it is just a bunch of grey 'buildings'. I don't know the first thing about painting textures on models. How do I do this in Milkshape or some other program? Does it have to be done in code via DBPro? I am exporting the file in .X format.

Cheers,

OK, i've worked out how to texture in Milkshape . What I don't get though is that when I then load the model into DBPro I just get the model but it's all black with none of the textures I have spent ages adding in Milkshape! What am I doing wrong?

Does no one want to help?

I'm sure it's nothing to do with Milkshape, most likely it's my coding. Do you need to include the textures in your project folder or something? Is it something to do with UV mapping???? I really need help with this

The textures need to be in the same folder as the model.

Yes... they have to be in the same folder in order for it to work (P.S i go for 3dstudio max)

My game will make sure Final Fantasy will never be forgotten.
Remember me because my game will be in the shops in a year or 2.

JOY!!!!

I can't believe it was as simple as putting the textures in the same folder as the model!!!! Is a bit of a shame as I was hoping to have them in a 'textures' folder but I suppose beggars can't be choosers!

Thank you for all your help

Now, where's my bottle opener gone

True, but I can sleep at night and $8K of tools are useless unless you know how and do use them.

Chris - Your post was deleted. Pirating is STEALING and is thus ILLEGAL. You are liable to be SUED. If you sell commericial games with pirated software models in them you WILL be sued. Indi did a very noble thing with Dwarven Tales after what he found out about certain media. You should do the same.

Your stealing peoples hard work. Your a theif. You can be put in jail for being a theif. For all I care, I hope you do.

Do what is right, earn your money and buy a program. If you cant earn the money, then you cant rightfully own it.

All my software is legal. Period. Dont go throwing anything back at me.

Think about it, and if you are mature and responsible, you will do the right thing...

FieldDoc - Terribly sorry for that interuption. I can talk to you on instant messengers about milkshape, as I know the program fluently.

The majority of people working with DB don't need to use expensive programs.

I've gone from using max/g-max to trialling programs like wings and milkshape and have been pleasantly surprised.

They really are great for the money.
