Hey I know that FPSC has trouble with high poly models and scenes and before I get into full on modeling (if I can handle it) I would like to know, what should I keep my poly count under for models and full scenes?

I suppose that this is where I'm supposed to put some witty one liner. Well...sorry to disappoint.

For the biggest and most detailed models,do not go over 2000 polys. Try to keep it as low poly as possible,for example I fitted a well detailed car under 1000 polys.

I think 2k polys is a bit conservative as a limit "For the biggest and most detailed models".

Even for what would be classed a budget gfx card with today's poly crunching GPU's, but yes always good to try and keep the poly count down as much as possible.

I find it is more down to your map design and placement of the higher poly meshes. i.e. too many 5k+ meshes in the players view at the same time can cause problems, but a few here and there is normally fine.

for a single model, try not to go over 8000 maximum polys, and even that is a stretch. guns and stuff can get closer to that limit then Items.
