I just downloaded this program to see if this could be a career path for me befor i start going to school for it, and just wanted to see how much drive i had to learn to do this on my own. After installing DBP i went to youtube so watch some tutorial videos and i cant even get the program to execute a simply "hello world" program. When i hit the exe. button i get a cannot create Messege that says this exactly "Could not create C:\program files (x86)\Dark basic software\dark basic professional\temp\dbp_program.exe" This totaly suck, i feel like someone shut the lights off befor i even walked in the room, I dont want to be discourage befor i even get to do anything, I have no idea what im doing when is comes to programming and right now i cant even start to learn.

Thanks Soulscar

@Soulscar
1. open on darkbasic pro
2. Look to for properties on the main screen
3. See filename? click the "..." beside that
4. go to a new folder and click open or create or whatever.
5. Above filename should be application type (make sure thats exe)

That should work.

Don't worry I had that problem too, and I recommend these tutorials:

They got me started and they will probally get you started too!
Have fun with Darkbasic Pro!

I want coke, not Pepsi!

Soulscar:

It seems I had this same message when I bought a laptop that has a Windows 7 OS. I just gave admin permission to run it and it worked.

As to programming in general, DBP makes game creation possible, but there is a fair amount of effort required to learn how to use it. If you want to make a game on the cutting edge by next week, you probably ought to try something else.

However, if you are willing to invest the time and effort into it, programming video games can be very rewarding and enjoyable (albeit there will be times of frustration as computers do exactly what you tell them and not necessarily what you want).

Good luck.

So many games to code.......so little time.

Like LBFN said, give it Admin permission and make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed. I can give you a link to the one you should get.

If you haven't already, just install the one that has the Direct 9.0c.

Hope it ends up working out for you!
