It wouldn't be pratical for most users, although it's possible. You'd have to modify the shader, the textures, and the script. I'm sure some crafty forum user will make it work, but you really have to know some HLSL to get it working.

Most other characters use ragdoll, along with some shader flourishes in their death script. This character is meant to be a BOSS, so that's why he dies in style.

@bond1

Will there be a shader in the pack which just provides the default normal / specular mapping and projected soft stencil shadow for custom characters which aren't monsters?

Also I'd like to know what parts of the shader are customisable in Dark Shader e.g. shadow transparency.

Yes, a template shader is included. That uses normal, specular, illumination, and shadows. Many shadow controls are customizable in Dark Shader. I'll make a video for YouTube this week showing how to use it.

Slight change of plan. After talking it over with TGC, we decided it would be better to avoid the cost of the rating, which doesn't come cheap, and also the hassle of dealing with the ESRB - who are very hard to please when it comes to submitting content to them. Last time one of my packs got rated it had to be submitted twice along with corresponding penalties because it didn't follow their guidelines to the letter.

So I'll be retooling the pack this week to remove any objectionable content.

@bond1 What kind of "objectionable content" will be removed? I'm curious to see what changes are going to be made to the pack to avoid the rating :/

No complaints here. That means the pack can be released even faster and bond1 doesn't get hit with additional costs. Everyone wins!

So we might not get a decapitation animation and some blood might get removed from a texture. Thats hardly a compromise compared with what we are getting in this pack.

I'm hoping the 're tooling' work isn't going to delay things too much. Great move bond1. Good decision TGC!

Thats bs how can dead space have their things tear your friggen head off and throw your ragdoll body around? what stops artist from doing the same thing to them? frankly I don't care how violent his characters are. I would be buying these models for "My" game which "I" am creating. If I want that blood texture in then it will be in, and if he eats peoples faces off I don't care, I want that in my game to. I want scary things that make people crap them selves, I want things to bleed out after all that hard work of dodging those decapitation animations and blowing the hell out of the monster. This is BS they have no right.

Why would you compromise the quality of the pack just for ESRB? Why just to get it to be submitted faster? I would wait as long as it takes to buy this pack... thats a shame. I understand about the extra costs, but it doesn't seem right at all...

Good question.

I want it all.
I'm not very mature, but I'm old enough.

Seriously though, I just want the shadow, even though I would also like to have the rest, but the shadow is a must.

...here's a link to their site, Zwarte Piet:

http://www.esrb.org/index-js.jsp

and their FAQ page:

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/faq.jsp

They are a private organization that plays the part of the self-styled video game
police
, but carry no legal authority.

For a price, they'll assess your media content and put their rated stamp of
approval on it.

It looks fancy, but is not something that you really need to worry about at the
private level.

Your doorbell should be remain quiet, as you release media on your site.

AhHa. Like the U.S. army don't ask don't tell, so they are just people stickking in there no cents worth. Like a good old fashioned, "Witch Hunt". How fun, Thank You for clearing that up fo me Seth. So they will not be a problem for me. I was scared, for a moment.

Revised pack has been sent to TGC to avoid ESRB requirement. Awaiting a response as to when it can be released!

ESRB is the Eastern Seaboard Ratings, as in American? What are they doing reviewing a British based site? Surely the BBFC should be the ones calling the shots on this?

I mean they're using America ratings, e.g., Mature, etc. In Britain, we just have age, (3, 12, 15, 16 and 18+). Also, realistically no parents look at ratings, most are too relieved to find a game their kid'll enjoy...

This is only a guess, but maybe because the US accounts for TGC's biggest customer base? I remember Richard Davey once saying something along those lines, that America by far accounted for most of their sales. I do know that there are school systems in America using FPSC as a teaching tool, because I did some freelance work for that version of FPSC. So perhaps that's why anything mature-themed that is FPSC-related requires a rating. Anyway, I think I've flown under the rader with the current revisions to avoid the whole hassle and expense. Just waiting to hear back from TGC now...

Surely it's the Entertainment Software Rating Board?

D'oh.

I could be bothered to Google it at that time to be honest, nevertheless, it's still an American company, but I suppose Davey was right though.

Hello!

I have been searching for the tutorial on "how t apply planar projected shadows to all the the characters", but I haven't found it. I have bought the viral outbreak pack, but the shadows only work with the viral outbreak enemies... I have already read this topic too, but... ah...
Could someone give me the link where I can find it?
Thank you very much!
