Hi all ....

I'm trying to learn modeling and animating , I installed Blender but whenever I try to import a .x model from FPSC folder it is blank , the import is finished but nothing is there .
I installed Winds 3d , but it has no .x importing , only exporting .
I looked for a good Model Converter , I got Quick 3d Trial , It has the same problem with Blender , but if you try to export another .x model , the whole progeam crashes .

Any Ideas ?
Cheers

use fragmotion . I have no idea how to do anything in it. I just use it for importing and exporting .x files. The trial version can do this

yes, the trial of fragmotion can animate and can save .x files with animations, something which a few other programs cant.

another question please :
I looked at a tutorial and I could animate a frame , but I want the following frames to follow the same frame , Will I have to edit every frame from scratch or there's some copy and paste ?

I dont have a clue for that one. Sorry, as I said I just use it for importing and exporting. Your gonna have to download it and see or someone else will merrily pop along and tell you.

Yes Fragmotion can cut/copy and paste frames of animation, just drag over the frame(s) with mouse button held down to highlight, then select cut/copy and then paste etc.

You can also just place a starting frame, move 10,20,30 and so on frames over and move the object your animating to it's end frame and Fragmotion will do the rest for you. So say you had a door at frame 1 sitting in the closed position, then moved the frame marker to frame 30 and rotated the door 90 degree's to the open position. That would be enough to create an opening animation of 30 frames, as Fragmotion would animate that door opening from 0-90 degree's over 30 frames.

Wow ! That's so cool actully , and makes things much easier .
Anyway I have another problem :
Whenever I animate A charcater then export a .x file for it , It never appears in-game , I mean I set it FPSC ready with .fpe and so on , And I place it in Map-Editor , but In-game it is not there , just the blob shadow .
I wil say something just to help , When I export a .x model it asks me if it's Text or Binary Or Compressed , can this make a diffrence ?

Thanks all , Cheers

Im pretty sure "text" is the best one for fpsc. As for the character not being there... Im not quite sure why that happens, it has happened to me too, so your not alone

...pretty much everything except for detailed model sculpting.

I have always used compressed, as to be honest I never knew which to use myself and compressed took up less HDD space

As to not showing up in the editor, is the character to scale ??

In Fragmotion 4 large grid squares (each being 25 units by 25 units) is the size of a standard FPSC grid square, or segment. So in Fragmotion 100Hx100Wx100L = a segment sized cube and a normal FPSC AI character is about 60 units heigh and about 26/7 units wide.

I imported a FPSC model already , which is Specialist.x , So It can't be too scaled because it's already scaled , and because the gun that the entity have appears in the correct place for my animation .

Here is a great tutorial for using Fragmotion, note certain proceedures setting up the windows in Fragmotion have not been addressed, so each individual window must be set as stated in the tutorial, the tut gives the impression only one command changes all four, the icons at the top of the tool bar are the controllers. One of the weak points for fragmotion is that it is an older software and not a lot of tutorials are out there, very under rated tool!

As far as I am aware, there are NO modelling programs which import .x fles correctly. The current version of FragMOTION gets close though.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

As it happens, i am also trying to learn how to use fragmotion, and after ages of looking for tutorials, none of which told me how to model, I have been wondering What can it actually do?
before I was using fragmotion, I used a program called Metasequoia for my modelling and Cyberdelia for my animating. Both are quite god, apart from their inability to export to .x (metasequoia can import .x though). Although, I will be looking for a model converting program that allows me to do this, so fingers crossed everyone.
