Here's a little update ..... thought I'd stick it here cos the other thread whent way off topic

Wonder how long this one will last ?

Anyways .... he now has a crewcut and a goaty beard + new boots/gloves and a fully useable side arm which comes out of it's holster ... gun + holster weighs in at 260 poly's ... the dude weighs in at 1540.

It's still a WIP ... and I still have a few edges to turn + some refinements.

Kickass riffle and a hoverbike will be on the way ... maybe I'll make him into some kind of future cop type dude

The face looks kinda like Arnie now, would need a more triangular shaped body though . Really good.

Wow MUCH better!

The arms dont look disconfigured cuz they have gloves now - wow, thats amazing how much a small change can work like that!

His chest is now looking more like his suit.

His stomach isnt as triangulated

I still think he needs a belt

The gun looks a wee bit to big to me

Looking much better

Here's his rifle ...... 512 poly's.

I know, I forgot the trigger .. will stick one in there, so add another 10 poly's. And most of the detail will be put in with the texture job

They're all sweet looking, but honestly one thing about his rifle bothers me. It's the way the stock sits although it looks cool it's off. Like it's set up too high on the top part.
I would recommend if you want to see what I mean loading up a picture of an AK-47 or M-16. Or any rifle/shotgun out there and check out the stock.

The way the stock sits (I say sits as it looks good) it would be a literal pain in the neck for the player to use the scope.
To be in proportion and ergonomic when the players right cheek bone is pressed against the top edge of the stock his eye's should be inline with the scope.

But it's your world and I'm in no way saying it looks bad. It looks good just a personal thing with me when it comes to weapons.
That's how I model mine anyway wether fantasy, futuristic, or modern. At least if it's designed for a human.

I'll move that down a tad and see what it looks like

Looks good, but I agree that the scope is not believable, perhaps one of those really short scopes (like on a M14 or something) would fit better, sorta in the middle of where the scope is now. I reckon long scopes like that only look right on long sniper rifles.

Well for a futuristic game I find no problem with the scope. Just the stock. Maybe bring the stock down to where the thing that connects to the pistol grip. Looks like if you brough it down to there just sort of tilting the back down it would straighten the top out, and stil look like the same weapon.

As Scopes do vary greatly in length depending on their power. Those M-16 scopes are only 4x where my rifle scope on my Remington PSS 700 is 6-20.
Also it's very tubish but then again futuristic. Real scopes have wider lenses in the front to help gather more light in low light situations. Where the little 4x scopes are very poor at doing that.

I know I have one on a SKS and if it's not mid day it's pretty dim. On a note though I'm really diggin' the hover bike! Especially the dual exhaust, and the guy too.

As noted above about a windshield if I was going to add one I'd make it look more like a HUD display. Or leave it as is windshields are for old men anyway lol.

Of course a couple of other ideas. First I might sweep that mag forward just a hair. Although it looks good now. Then I would clip the bottom of the mag slap off. No offense but it's too big. It should be thin like just a metal plate with some overhang on the front.

Also the side cuts are pretty standard mag stuff. If you wanted a more exotic look you could make it resemble a waffle mag. Do a search for AK-47's and you should catch some pictures of waffle mags. Instead of having vertical grooves they have like waffle ridges running horizontal across them.
The mag looks nice the way it is though. Just offering idea's. Waffle mag's are sought after by shooters though because they're nearly indestructable, and allow for a great grip no matter if they're covered in mud or your wearing gloves.

Also for some eye candy when you texture be sure not to use the same texture for the mag as you do for the rifle. Mag's typically aren't made by the gun manufacturers and go through a different coating process. They also tend to see twice the abuse and neglect a weapon does.

Maybe sweep that pistol grip back a hair for a more ergonomic look.

Like I said all just what I would do. It all looks good just the stock position bothered me. I have to give you credit for your creativity. I can model just about anything that I can see. However it's only certain times when I can just dream up a creation.

@Zen.. I think the problem is that with the gun against your shoulder, your eyes would be past the end of the scope, so you wouldn't be able to use it. You could adjust the stock or the scope to fix it. But you knew that already.

very nice, though the pullback on basially all guns is on the left side, coz most people are right handed,

@zen, its not very often you would find an ak47 with a wafflemag, though on a steyr aug there the most common

so the pistol is right handed and the rifle left :-P, but you could easily fix that,

and it would be pointless of wastign polys just to amke a waffleeffect, i like it as it is.

i also think that his boot look like theyve been melting at the bottom end, coz there drooping a bit and the base is quite big compared to above it,

oh and the handle of the pistol could be thinner as it looks like a block from back view,

good luck

Ya know I didn't notice that .... will fix it.

The whole gun has been scaled down to fit the hand better

I basically have a couple of things to fix before I start on the UV's

What side the cocking mechanism resides on has more to do with designer preference. AK's have the bolt handle on the right side. FAL's have the charging handle on the left side as well do H&K's.
M-16's or the more modern M-4's have ambidextrous charging handles.
Yet many Semi-auto weapons have the bolt cocking handle on the right side for simplicity. All of those that have the cocking handle or a charging lever on the left side have the ejection port on the right side still. That way shells are still ejected away from the shooter.

Also if you go to Germany just about all their AK mags are waffle mags. They're the one's who make them as I own quite a few, and they are very popular.

In fact though I could name 10 rifles with a cocking handle on the right side for every one that is on the left. It's mainly for simplicity. Since the shells eject on the right side the bolt is exposed on the right side so it's easier to simply attach a cocking handle directly to the bolt. Rather than go about designing a charging handle on the left side.

True the mag is nice as is I was simply suggesting a more exotic look. Since 99% of the shooter games I've seen all use standard style mags.

I like the model alot (really), I just think his loin garments are looking a wee too tight-

Sargent Slaughter rushes through the tall grass towards the field to incinerate some more armor off of that cowardly tank that he already pummeled. He goes into a dash - BAM - he rushes right into a standing branch of a tree that the grass hid. It was a bit too low - I guess Sargent Slaughter was smart in trading a few rounds of ammunition for a baseball player's jock-strap + protector (sports store for only $20 whoppin bucks - custom fit).
