They're not patches, they're upgrades. The previous ones were patches, but the new ones are adding new commands and functionality-- something that was not promised when you bought the software and the DB team has no obligation to do, but is working on for you people anyways.

Two Years, that works for me.

Dark Basic Expert? lol, how about

DD- Dark Development

This time it will include a more powerful syntax. Not necessarily a basic language, but something more close to C++. Well, whatever.

Assuming that if/when a new programming language/authoring system is released, it will even be called DarkBASIC. Looking into my crystal ball, I forsee a different type of game creation package altogether. Looking at the trend for TGC, it will probably go by a fairly umbrella-like name. Of course, this is pure speculation, and nobody outside of TGC has any real information yet, suffice to say that if it will be created, it is years down the line.

DBPro will remain alongside what we tentatively have planned. These drawing-board ideas have been around for well over a year now and things are coming into place well. There is one significant product launch for 2004 planned (from us anyway, we'll have plenty more 3rd party launches) however this isn't a new language. The introduction of it will bring a great many things to DBPro though.

There are some very exciting releases in production at the moment that will all enhance DBPro in one way or another and will come out spread across 2004. Wait 'n see people.

Cheers,

Rich

I really don't think they have a next version of DB planned yet, if they did, it wouldn't be for quite a few years and TGC only plan 2 years ahead at the most.

A more powerfull language near to C++,... good, near to assembly code of cpu.
Really for expert.Hey Rich, you and your friends have enough time to write some decent tutorials for your next project!!!

I have to agree that a new DarkBASIC is unlikely. If they're going to make something new, it would be very smart to give it a new & different name...

I can hardly wait

Good thing they are updating for another two years. I just bought Pro, and was hoping that they wouldn't stop updating it. Now I don't have to worry

With Dll's and rapid updates(ok, maybe not rapid, but 2-3 months) you've pretty much got unlimited possibilities. By the end of two years, DBP will probebly have 100s of more functions and commands.

Heck, every dll and patch is just building on our "theoritical" DB++.

Bolt - there are NO plans at all to drop support for DBPro, regardless of time-frame or other packages coming out. What you have will be supported until 2006 at least.

Rich
