In a purely technical term (i.e. not calculating the difficulty that would or could be encountered)

could I make a graphics editor that made 3-D graphics with DB? I noticed it said it can save .x file formats. Does this mean I can make a "game" that can load primitives and let me manipulate them, then save them so I can use them in later games?

I know this is not the best route to go if I want to make 3-D graphics for games but I am excited at the prospect of this kind of challenge.

I am also aware that it can save sound and 2-D files aswell. So you could in fact make graphics or sound recorders with DB?

Thanks for any help in advance. !

Graphics editor?
Well as I can see almost everybody makes their own graphics/world/matrix/texture/... editors (includeing me )

And in some situation it is very good route to make own editor

Sound recording, not in DB or DB Pro native code. You can do it manually if you know the wav file format, by messing around with memblocks.

As by sound recording I heard someone on the forum saying that there was a function in DB that would record from the microphone attatcment on a computer as a .wav file I believe.

And as for editors I didn't realize so many people made there own.

Simply put, yup. In fact, someone is already developing a 3D modeller in DBP. Currently, it can load models and more recently now supports UV texture mapping.

For image editing
SAVE IMAGE

For sound editing
RECORD SOUND
SAVE SOUND

For object editing
You'll have to do this one yourself (or use SAVE MESH?)

You can record sound from a microphone, but you can't mix wavs or add effects and save them again using native functions. Hope that's a bit clearer.

Yeah, though you could argue that memblock functions are native functions

In other words it is possible.

@David89: Yes it's possible, but if you load a wav into a memblock, you don't get the header information as it is in the original file. Just something to be careful of, you have to reconstruct the header before saving.

Hmmmm... I see... *doesn't understand anything that was last said*

I am unfamiliar with Memblocks and native code perhaps someone could tell me what they are...

(Everyone had to learn things for the first time once...)

Memblocks allow you to edit the raw data conained in resources such as images, sounds, object etc. so you can do cool things with them

As for the native stuff, it just means functions that were built into DB, as opposed to functions we write ourselves.
