Before I decide to go ahead with seeing what can happen and making a big deal about it, trying to get support from alot more people around this I would like to know what you guys think first.

-- -- --

What i'm currently proposing is this
Late March Time ... March 27-28th 2004 (may expand to 26-29th if needed)
Expo Convention ... Hopefully will get enough interest for this idea to work
Basically want to rent out the conference center here, then have the developers have thier own little area's specifically for thier products & associated companies. There will be limited Booths and space for these areas, so it'll be upto the Companies suchas TGC to choose who they will allow there and be associated with them.
There will also be an open booth floor for everyone else, no matter the platform to have a booth and show off thier latest creation and such.
Also hopefully will be able to set aside 2 conference rooms for speakers, this will be the only schedualed and pay-per-session area... but I hope again if this is made for ALL mod developers that hopefully can get people from the biz to drop in and talk about things, perhaps get Paul Jaques to agree to 3D Studio Max tutorial session ... or maybe Mike Johnson on Creating Effects within DarkBASIC Professional.

Basically the people there will be there specifically to show off something new, or to show how something works, etc...
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions i'll be happy to hear them, see what everyone thinks before I actually go about getting the ball rolling for all of this.
Also if anyone would like to help me out with setting this all up, PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me.

Will see about getting up a site for it asap.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Who should come?

Dark Basic
Blitz Basic
Pure Basic
Power Basic
3D GamesStudio
C++ Developers
Level Modders
Publishers (Can't really ask any of them too come, but I bet some would show.)

Basically anyone who actually designs or makes games.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
What should happen?

Tutorials on Effects
Talks of big games(Whether Indepdently made or Doom3/HL2/etc.)
Talks about Future of Independent Game Design
Talks of Evolution of Industry
Talks of History of Games.
Good Food(Trust me on this, everyone wants good food after/inbetween a long day(s).)
Open to public at end of the day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
What could I do?

Well, I'm reading my third book on game design(finished first one, 2/3 through second one,and 1/6 third one), and I'm pretty intelligent when it comes to designing games.
(Have about 5 full fledged 40+ page documents.(Those are just the small ones))

-I'd be willing to make a pamphlet on proper game design, and present it at the entrance as a handout(Freebie!)
(This is assuming I come in person, otherwise it gets handed out by someone else.)

Nonetheless, I'd also set up a showcase of my current works(or at least send them to someone), for display.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions/comments

-Where will it take place?(CA right?)

-Late March or Early April sounds good. For Spring Break is a good time for me.(assuming I come)Plus, many other people have holiday at that time so you could get a large crowd.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Convention in U.S sounds good, and hopefully some good feedback will come in.

@Mattman

That really doesn't help Mattman. I don't think this whole thing is gonna be rescheduled for you if it's inconvient for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway...

I think ideas for this convention will come better after the U.K one passes by. That way we can see what went well, and how things should be taken care of.(TCA,Rob K, take plenty of screenshots )

Hmm, well, I probably wont be able to go, but I anticipate the convention, surely someone from the forums will get some pretty deep info on other developers projects, which may help out set a minimum for developers on the forums. Not to mention I'm sure someone will bring back some pretty decent pics

if this is to work it'll need the interest of more than just 3 users,

i completely forgot to put in the original post the location...
Los Angeles, California

be a shame if everyone else is actually more hyped about the possiblity than you guys - if some of the louder users want to be petty about this and not want to show interest or come simply because I'm going to be setting it up then quite frankly it'll be your loss ... atleast i'm willing to want to put something together

Dont worry, Raven - people will always moan about the location/time...

Might be a good idea if you can get sponsors etc - although an Expo. as opposed to a DBPro specific convention probably wont be a good idea.

maybe... the pure interest or lack of it really makes me feel it isn't worth it.
i mean after all that posturing about how people wanted a US Convention, then well you can see the response.

it would be simple enough to get someone like nvidia to sponsor it, just a case of filling in a form really.
what is needed really is interest - but what exactly would get that?

The problem is that most people are too young to want to travel etc.
Perhaps asking in the new year might yield better results...

Could have told me before the convention! I wrote/emailed to both nVidia & ATI - and didn't hear a peep from them.

OH=Ohio

I'm interested in a convention, and I've already offered my support and ideas in my above thread.

Unfortuantly, you're right Raven. All the people who've complained and whined about not having a convention still arn't doing anything when someone has offered to help.

oh, thought you knew nick
Sponsership Form here ya go, for next year

well maybe there will be more support in the new year, but i'd rather not have to have like 2-3months just to sort something out ... because room, flights, coference rooms, etc ... are all alot more expensive when you don't book in advance. And your never guarenteed a place

if there are only like 8-9 peeps that can come suppose i could just offer up my living room floor would save a good few bucks (and its on the beach which would make a nice vacation for most anyways)

i dunno, can keep talking about this - see what can be arranged.

anyway, i'll just sit back and watch this thing move along..

I live in Southeastern PA...specifically Lititz (Lancaster County). Seems the majority of posters here live in NE. Except for well...Raven who lives in Cali, last I knew.

Anyway, I'm interested. By that time I'll have my own car (everyone knows I got my liscense, heh) and if it's relatively close to here, like in PA or somewhere very close, I just might be able to make it.
