Developer: Nigezu

Storyline: It's late 1960's and the hottest years of the Cold War are at hand. You're to infiltrate a secluded Soviet military facility and prevent a nuclear attack on U.S. soil.

Description: Stealth game. Your goal is to infiltrate past enemy lines unnoticed (you can always try your luck in a gun fight too).

Any stock media you may see in the screenies is likely to be replaced with my own custom media. I'm working on a tank and an armored car at the moment.

Pic 1: An outdoor scene from one of the levels taking place in a Soviet military base.

Special Thanks to:

good looking first screen, but remember to detail the ground areas where the player will walk as well as the background areas.

(you already do a good job on the background)

Thanks for the C&C guys!

Quote: "remember to detail the ground areas where the player will walk as well as the background areas."

Oh yes, the yard will be littered with sewer manhole covers, tanks and other armored vehicles, boxes and other objects for player to take cover behind once I get the models done.

Quote: "Add some mountains to the Skybox, and add some things like wheels or tyres ect."

Thanks for the tips, Pekelaar. Wheels and tires are a neat idea! I have to work on them next. I'll post some screenies later with a new skybox.

EDIT: I attached a pic showing basicly the same scene as in the first screenshot but this time with different skybox. What do think?

First screen looks good! Interesting outdoor area with well placed shadows.

I for one don't like the new skybox.

How 'bout using ImageShack or something like this to embed your screens?

It's a bit overwhelming, isn't it? I gotta work on it.

You know what? I just tried Photobucket but I couldn't make them show up as an image even with (img)(/img) brackets. Guess I'll have to try ImageShack next

EDIT: Yes, ImageShack works fine. I'll use it to embed my images from now on.

Thanks, Soviet176.

I can't give any exact date for demo or beta. Only thing sure is that there will be a demo once I'm happy with the military base chapter.

I told you the next release will contain a suiting skybox for your game.I fits perfectly imo.

This looks a bit cs-ish , which is good in my book.

btw you misspelled my name lol.

Thanks, Gencheff. This skybox fits perfectly and I can easily change it's color if I want a different feel to my levels.

I corrected the spelling

EDIT: LOL, I just realized that there already is a PC game called Cold War. Would it be a copyright infringement to make a game with the same name?

Thanks, OutdoorGamer.

If I changed the name to something like Cold War: The Balance of Terror, I think then it would be okay, wouldn't it?. Cold War is a term used when talking about the years between the end of World War II and the fall of Soviet Union and therefore it shouldn't be anyone's property? I mean, how many games with World War II in their name are there (Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, World War II: Road to Victory and World War II Combat: Road to Berlin spring to mind). If companies were suing each other for using the name of the same historical event, there wouldn't be any of those games, right?

Oh they sue eachother, just don't get anywhere. When selling an online game with a coleague a guy sued us for using the RPG Genre, talking about we stole his idea lol ... like he holds patent to it.Needless to say he didn't get anywhere, but still a waste of time.

And quite frankly Cold War doesn't sound very appealing to me.

I'm not a big fan of the floor.Looks a bit dull to me.You should also add some shaders to the segments. If it's done right, you'll have an even better looking scene.

Thanks for the tips!

About the shaders... I'm not going to use any in my outdoor scenes to ensure fast frame rates and smooth gameplay, although it would look much better with them. I will use shaders in indoor scenes only. I could make cracked texture variations of the floor to break the dullness though.

EDIT: Yep, I made a little test with shader applied on the floor and frame rates dropped from the average of 55-60 to the average of 40-55.

That would be a good idea, however I was leaning towards changing the texture more.

Another suggestion, add some fence on the top of the walls.

Maybe add some garbage on some of the edges in the compound for detail.

Some grass around the old car (just a bit).

A guard post on the left of the gate would look nice as well.

Just a few suggestions

Hi, Nigezu. (Niko? ollaanko kaimoja?)

This looks great, I would like to signup as a beta tester, if that's ok? I tried to make a infiltration based game a year ago, but hope yours turns out better I'm waiting for some more screens from this project

The skybox indeed appears pure white in the screenshot. The truth is that it isn't pure white. It's just the bloom that makes it look like so in that particular screenshot

Not really... I'm not even using shaders in these screenies. It must be all the custom media that makes the screenies stand out from just another FPSC project

Thanks, OutdoorGamer. I guess I could smooth out some edges. I don't want the poly count to get out of hand though, as I'm going to use the tank in my outdoor scenes. With a decent texture it should look alright even in all it's blockiness

As D0MINIK said, the shadows/lighting could use a bit of a blue hue to match the skybox. Other than that, this looks excellent! You managed to give the map a convincing sense of depth while still retaining a good framerate. Great job!

A small question , does this use any mods or not (that's what I'm assuming from the title),because I have an idea for nightvision with a shader, but as far as I know, only PB can do in-game fullscreen shader switches.

Nope, this doesn't use any mods. It's FPSC v1.17 with bond1's adaptive bloom. I've been looking at Project Blue for quite some time and even thought about buying it. As yet I've been too stingy to do that

i really hate to ask questions that make people stare at their scrrens and then rub their eyes to make sure they just read what they thoguht they read (but i seem to ask a lot of them!), but what programs can you use to desgn your own entities? I have photoshop, and ive heard everyone uses that for textures but i dont know about models...anyone?

@Matto225

There are many modeling programs you can use to make your own entities. I use Anim8or because it's free and I've become familiar with it. For UV mapping I use LithUnwrap. For textures I use GIMP. It's kind of a free version of PhotoShop. I hope this helps

@Gencheff

That nightvision looks great I think I may need to invest on Project Blue to make some neat night time infiltration levels

Oh, and if anybody thought this project is dead, it's not. Because I'm doing this all on my free time as a hobby the progress has been slow, and I haven't done anything new show-worthy to post here for quite some time. Expect some screenies in next couple of weeks
