I have 2 questions:

1.)Is there any other programs besides milkshape,gmax,anim8ator,and 3ds max that can make good 3d models?

2.)How exactly do you make a 3d model?

1) Hundreds, goto www.cnet.com and you should find a ton of demos
2) That's both a really complex and easy question. Are you asking on a purely technical level or are you asking for tips?

Anim8or is the easiest program to use. Most people can make a model the first time they use it..like me. Try the eggplant tutorial.

Thats true, anim8or is good to cut your teeth on as its free, but it lacks some of the better tools and cant animate and cant texture very well at all. Id get milkshape, its easy, it can animate, its great for game models and it has support for so many formats. Plus you can pick up loads of great milkshape tutorials all over the net. One good one is psionic3d.co.uk.

i use milkshape for my game.. milkshape is everything in one- modeller, uv mapper, animator, import/exporter, and its easy to manipulate your model i think than in otehr programs

Animation Master $300 bucks and I learned from this software
but its spline only no polys and does modeling, decaling(textureing),
easy to do animation, and a good render I own a few high end
programs max & maya but this is just as good as those and is my favorite.

my advice is try a low priced modeler first they're easy to use.

If you're a total clutz with polygons, try DoGA CGA. L1 is free, L2 and L3 are shareware (but fully functional for making game models. You only need to register for make AVI files.)

DoGA CGA is a lot like virtual Legos or Technics. You pull parts from a bin and make models from the those. The only real limitation is that DoGA does not export animations. But, if your goal is starships and such, it's a winner.
