Hi
A collegue of mine and I are developing a pyrotechnics show which produces 8 metre high jets of flame synchronised to music. we have just returned from a highly sucessful show in Mauritius and we are looking to develop the system further and hopefully get some really good gigs.
An example of what we do can be downloaded from here:
http://www.elmtreecottages.co.uk/firedance.mpg
It is 28 meg so it is for broadband users onlyu but I think you will find it amusing if not a little mad.
I am trying to come up with some way of visualising the effect in order to help me progra,m a show. I was advised that I could possibly do it with dark basic and I wonder if someone could have a look and point me in a direction. Is it a particle system I should be using or some other way of creating the flames on a screen? The flames have a certain behavior based on how long a burst they receive and the fireball has certain decay properties once the flame is shut off.
If I download ythe trial version will it give me enough to decide if dark basic is the right thing?

Regards

The particle engine in DBPro would be a good system to mimic your flares. You can set the particles up however you like, gravity and stuff like that could even be done by simply changing the particle gravity settings. Actually laying the mock performance out would be fairly easy, just make a particle object for each flare and position them where you like - you can then simply adjust the particle emissions and change the colours if you like.

The demo should answer the question for you, just download it and check the particles example supplied then mess around with the values and see what happens.

Sounds like a fantastic project! With a neat little front end, you could add elements in 3D space, change their characteristics, and watch the result. Very possible in DB Pro.
