@Newbie Brogo:

Almost EVERY webhost allows direct linking to images...

There is ussually two problems that you can come against when trying to get an image to work on the internet...
1) You need to save the image in a compatible format for the internet, otherwise, browsers can't read it properly (well, it's usually the forum itself that can't read it properly), therefore it isn't shown. If you have Photoshop, go to File >> Save For Web and then save it in the format you want (you may notice a loss in quality, just play with the paramaters till it looks good)

2) Try to take out any spaces you have in your link, and replace them with %20 ("%20" is the ascii equivelant to a space)

After you've done that, youre image will work.
I had a bit of trouble getting mine to work at first, but after i did both of those, it worked fine

Hope I Helped...

Guess i got rumbled about the Magic card. Yeah, the card isn't mine, it's my little brothers, he bought a booster deck and i was looking at the pictures to see if any of them could work in Baldurs Gate for a character portrait. I found that card and nicked it. It's in my drawer. It looks cool on it's own, but twice as cool when the colours are inversed. Try it; i'd post one here but this isn't my comp.

actually, free webhosts normally disable hotlinking of images (the easiest way to do this is through htaccess, and there is no way around it unless you have access to the htaccess file, or are able to put your image in an html file and use iframes, which you obviously can't do in this forum )

free webhosts that allow hotlinking are rare, but more or less all paid hosts will allow you to (unless you get paid geocities or something, lol )

but saying its rare, there are places out there that allow it. try http://www.freewebs.com.

ok, well, ive got three curent web addresses, one at Free Webs, another at Spaceports, and the last at Marhost which all allow hotlinking, so that's why i made the asumption that most free hosts do...

A lot of webservers don't allow you to 'hotlink'. This is to stop people using someone else's server as a downloader. This is why if you're on a website that links to a downloadable file it always links you to the page where the download is hosted, because you won't be able to link to the download itself. But you can always link to HTML pages, because if you couldn't then your webserver would really suck as no-one could see your pages. I don't know if it would work but you could try creating an HTML page contaiing nothing but the image and linking to the image through it. I'm not sure though, and you wouldn't be able to show the HTML page-you would probably have to use javascript to redirect from he HTML to the image file. I suppose it could be possible in the long run, but it's not really worth the bother. But i say someone a while ago on these Forums offering a free FTP sever for everyone on the Forums to use. Try searching for server.

StevKay sits next to me in comp. I don't have a clue in hell what he's talking about. AHH he's threatening me! Help! *beating noises* Steve this is no time to be playing those bongos!

Sorry about the bad joke. Couldn't help myself. I'm taking pills for it, honestly.

So how did all of you put your images on the web in the first place? Do you have websites? Do you have mini-websites under angelfire or geocities? Are there sites that just let you put the images on them?

I think most Apache servers allow for hotlinking. But i'm sure that there will be a way to make them block it if you're some sort of mad coding genius. I get my sig from an Apache server. Unfortunately it runs when it feels like it so i'm setting up my own to make sure it does.
