I've been poking around with DBP but no constant code. I have been wondering what file type should I save models in? .3ds, .x, .obj? Etc? Secondly, should I texture the models manually in DBP pr do it before hand (preferable)?

Of the three file formats that you listed, I would pick .x. DBPro doesn't support animation from either of the other two, and I'm not sure it supports .obj at all. The DirectX file is by far the best supported type. I'd also recommend texturing your model in your modeling program, as the .X file format will transfer the texture nicely.
