okay so I'm one of the people working on rhe Starship Troopers Community pack and we're working on things from the basic training scenes of the movie. On the obstacle course there's a rope swing in the middle of it.

Is it possible to create a rope that you can grab and swing on in FPSC X9?? If this has been asked before I'm sorry I didn't find anything searching and I don't know the scripting language.

That's a good question... That would actually be very interesting to see!
Sorry for commenting without helping you, I just have no idea about how that would work, but I know only the basics of scripting

actually by showing interest in this you are helping because hopefully someone that does know the scripting will see that there is interrest in that type of script and figure out if it's possible or not.

hmmmm i don't know scripts, and this will probably get me yelled at by someone who does, but I think this would be possible by say... making an invisible platform at the bottom of the rope, where the player swings, with a waypoint going to the other location, but going down then up floors. Then add a script where it will wait for the player to be on it before it moves, and will rotate (vertically) the rope with it. just spitballing.

Actually Design Runner you might be perfectly right in that. it would be pretty much the same principle as the ladder with the invisible ramp in front of it to give the illusion of climbing the ladder.

The only difference is this would have a trigger script applied to the rope and some sort of invisible platform under it. I'm actually really suprised this has never come up before.

I know that Cosmic Prophet had created a jet pack. It has a script in it, that may help. Read it somewhere, but cant remember where.

Conjured has a thread were he was messing with camera control script. Hes a sharp cookie, Read the thread. Maybe you can get a better idea then the ramp thing. As the Jet pack script lifted verticaly. There is a part in conjured script were he made the camera lift (player) by using the keyboard.

okay so I emailed Cosmic Prophet the other day and asked him his two cents on this and he came up with the moving platform idea right off the bat as well, but wasn't sure about how to do the rope, but he said he'd check into it.....anyone else have any other ideas??

Sorry for the double post but I made a quick model as an example in the hopes that it'll help jog some ideas.

Hmmm.. I'll agree with Prophet and the rest. Using an invisible platform under the rope could be used so when the player jumps he wont' fall down. Than use the 2 trigger zones to activate the vertical swinging of the rope and an animation to make the player appear as if hanging from the rope. I'm not sure if it would work, but just some ideas.
