Hey,

I've been trying to make custom one and a half layers high segments with FPSC Segment Editor, and I'm getting really frustrated with this. No matter what I do, some parts of the segments disappear when you look at them from a right angle. Could this be a problem with Segment Editor? Would I be better of hand-writing the .fps files?

Attached is a video showing the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

The segment editor is very, very unpredictable at times. Wait for fpsconline.com to go back online, which it will be in the future, and get signs or any other new program they put out there.

Thanks. I guess I should try out another program. Before that I'll copy a stock .fps file and edit it... or then I could write a new file from scratch. That will be a lot of work of course, but I'll see if it pays off in the end.

I actually recommend that. It is the technique I am using for a special pack I am doing. shhhhhh If you want something to be a room, then just copy a room .fps, and change the mesh and texture options.

I suggest manual editing. It's best way so far, and I'm using only it.

Best texture of the Month.

I think I worked my way around this problem by editing the existing .fps files. Thanks for pointing me to right direction

EDIT: The problem persists... Meshes are still disappearing. It seems as if FPSC couldn't handle segments that are something else than 100x100 units in size.

Simply make one of your walls 1/2 segment size and use two layers.

Strange, the problem seems to be with the ceiling. There's no problem when there are walls only. When I add ceiling that is half a layer higher than usual, things get wierd.

@rolfy

Yes, I've tried that, though not by editing an existing .fps file. That's going to be my next move. Thanks

An even simpler way might be to create a plane the size of your room and just place that as an entity at the height you want using normal segments for walls and floor. This wouldnt be a major job and if you dont model at all just give me a shout and I'll create it for you.

Hmmm... It never crossed my mind the solution could be that simple Then the only problem would be shaders. I love bond1's segment shader and I guess I couldn't use that if my room was an entity?

Thanks for the offer, rolfy, but I like to make my own models. I'll try this out right away!

EDIT: Yes! This method actually works and is great for performance, as I can make a simple room with a handful of polygons. Similar rooms built with segments can easily have hundreds of polygons.

I had this problem before and instead of useing the basic format for segments I used one of the gantry or platform versions of segments as a format. I worked great!

I finally got some time to test it out and it indeed worked great! Thank you so much, Disturbing 13!

Here's a screenshot of a quick test room I built.
