Yes, it is possible with the new limb detection. You would just need an animation where that limb fell off... I think.

Yeah but you would also need to make the player stay put afterwards.
Otherwise, the arm would follow them around as they walk/run since it is still part of the model.
As long as they stay close to it though you could pull it off, so it would require a bit of animating and scripting.

I was also considering having a separate model of the arm with an alt texture (transparent) following my characters.
That way you could hide the charatcers arm in the middle of the torso's mesh via an animation, then change the texture on the other arm model and drop it.
That way, the character could continue on without the arm following it around.
This is a bit more complicated though and I have not tried it, so it's just a thought until I get more time to experiment.

Good luck

If they were holding a weapon would you not have to
get rid of that and stop the model running the firing
animation.

Yes, you would, if it's the arm holding the weapon.

But isn't it possible to spawn an arm entity when hit (the real arm disappears) and so it could be lying on the floor. With the new limb detection, of course.
I think you guys got what I mean.

Thanks,

Maybe an arm that has been cut off, and is laying on the floor with the sword still in its hand???

Just merge the two meshes.
The process may be a bit different depending on the modelling program you are using, but it is not difficult to do.
Try using the help feature for the program or search their forums for a tutorial.

Which modeling program do you use???

I have attached an image that shows where you can find the control for merging meshes in MilkShape 3D....

...actually, I read a comment on another thread stating that using the new limb
scaling, it is possible to scale a limb to all zeros (virtually invisible), producing the
illusion of the limb being gone.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=181943&b=21

Couple that with the MOVETO command, it should be possible to synchronize an
arm being shot, disappearing, and dropping to the floor at the character's feet,
from within a single script.

Guesstimated Requirements:

- Enemy Character

- Right & Left Arm Entity

- Main Enemy Script

- Appear Arm Scripts

HEY!

You can basically do it like this.. If it works?

Make TWO textures.

In first one, theres textures in hand part, and other not.

Now, if someone could do script that changes the texture during gameplay to texture, where is Aplha Channel transpent in hands section.
Now the hand would disappear and theres no need for meshes or anything else.....OR HEAD.

And before testing, we could put "transpency" to 100 in characters setup to make sure it works..
Heres little example..

Would this idea work?

Sorry my bumpy english.

Sometimes, i dream about TGC.
