Well, I've got it to this point, and although there is no polish and little UI, the flying and shooting bit works!

Files now in WIP thread http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=183128&b=8

Thanx man, it's still rough around the edges though.

Multisync is used for multiplayer.

Took me a while to get my head around it on the limited docs, but got there in the end.

Need to work on the Client side prediction now.

hablas espanol? i noticed the sun was named sol

...Well you're speaking to a person who only makes 2d games and only created a chat program with multysync...so you're practically my god.

Btw, i noticed that if i enter a name too long, the client crashes

Thanx for that man, I'll fix the long name bug. That's c++ for you!

Keep at it though. If you've got a multiplayer chat up, the basic principles are the same.

DarkGDK has all the 3D and Maths commands you need to make it a snap.

The hardest thing is sticking with a project and seeing it through, especially with the nightmare of debugging c++

Where did you find tutorials/ info about multisync? I've searched and can only find one simple tutorial that really doesn't get in depth?

You may get more interest if you put this in the WIP section, best if you put a couple of pics in there too to get peoples attention.

I wont be able to make it tonight but I'll keep an eye on this one

I'm an old hand on the forums, and this is nowhere near ready for a WIP thread. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Will get some screenies up tonight into this thread.

Ok, I have put the server up (It's 3:30pm UK time)

I shall leave it up for 1/2 hr, more if people are logged in.

Remember, red square means you are heading away from target, blue means towards

New Client with some tweaks and music activated.

This is ONLY the client.exe .... You need the original download at top of thread for the assets.

Simply replace the old client.exe with this new one.

Oh, I'm still workin on it. There have been some tweaks.

Need to get several people on at once now though, so it's just a matter of patience and waiting for a time when you all happen to be up for it at the same time.

Keep an eye on the server status in the top post. UK evenings and Weekends.

Just after I posted my family all walked in so I couldn't stay on too long.

You may already know this but the small hud squares also show in front of you when they are really behind.

Otherwise, really good start, I have not played a game like this since ELITE, good memories came rushing back.

Although I always found the combat a bit tedious in these kind of games, probably because of the speeds involved. Perhaps a 'match speed' control or something would help make battles more coherent.

Multiplayer Elite is the target I'm aiming for.

The targeting squares are allways visible, but they are coloured red when you are heading away from the target, and blue when you are heading towards. This is intended behaviour.

I agree on the speeds, that's one of the reasons for the test. Hard to get a true impression when you're trying to control two clients. It's a tricky balance between giving the impression of fast space craft, and time for the eye to see the model.

I have dropped the speeds in the latest client and shall put the server up again this evening (6:30pm UK time)

Is the target supposed to be directly in front of you even when the ship is directly behind?

Nope, but that's a consequence of using a sprite for the targeting box. Can either draw behind all 3d or in front of all 3d. don't have zdepth to allow it to render in between.

I should really be using a plain with a texture at the target's true position, instead of a sprite, this would give proper zdepth behaviour then, but for now it's on the list of luxuries.

Server is up.

Finally got hit shield to show on enemies and self

have tweaked controls and speed.

You still have a VERY fast top speed for getting around, but if you want to hit something, go below 100 m/s

HINT: Space bar is massive brake!

Hoping to have the Target scanner up and running tonight ... then it will start to feel like ELITE.

Incedently, if anyone has space ship models they fancy contributing, I'm game.

Will shortly be working on a ship choice menu for ships with different characteristics.
