Hi Its a dual question.

Im using Ms3d 1.66a.

I regrouped two polys to make a new group and when I apply my new texture in some angles a black seam appears at the top of the 2 polys.

Also I know this one is probably easy but how do I prevent the 2 polys grouped to obtain the same shading as the other part of the tower. It appears to be brighter when in fact its the same texture used in the tower as around the door. Its a light reflection problem or a smoothing issue?

2 possibilities...

a) you've not welded the vertices
b) you have backfaces on and its showing it

personally i'd put money on it being b)

thanks raven, whilst the back faces thing didnt do it, I found that the auto snap uv feature in milkshape just needed a nudge of the top vertices down a bit to stop that.
Ill check the welding issue now.

I didnt have to weld for some reason doing it again, It appears that the auto UV process grabs a small black area not found on the texture that appears in milkshape as compared to photoshop so moving it down a small component did the trick.

thanks raven the help is duely noted

and for some strange reason it came back after hiding and showing the peices while developing. not the line but the noticable light difference.

Ill have to save that part until the end.

Just select all those faces ( bottom of tower + the doorway ) and assign them to a new smoothing group

Any group will do as long as it's not number 1 ...... incase you don't know >> select the whole of the bottom half of the tower + goto GROUPS + click on ASSIGN + click number 2

Just incase your not sure about assigning smoothing groups Indi ..... some peeps don't know how to do it.

Anyway, that should fix your problem

ok it was the slight angle on the tower face giving me grief.

next i have to add ivy to the walls

Oh simple I didnt refresh before posting again.

I hate smoothing groups
( only cause I dont fathom them fully yet )
and they really ruin it because I have seperate textures and groups so this method works for now.
thanks for the tip tho ill test that advice.

this what happens when i use your advice simple.

Granted i tried to fatten the base again, seems to be the problem as well

I have used groups of meshes and thats probably whats upsetting it.

Then I suggest you first select all of the verts in the lower section of the tower and re-weld them ...... then do this >> select the lower part of the tower ( NOT from the groups menu ) if you have it grouped that is, but free hand faces selection ... then assign the smoothing group like I have here.

You can see how it fixes the prob

Ok that solves it, thanks, I was trying to weld the door corners 2 vertices at a time. I didnt know I had to weld them all at once.

This solved it straight away.
thanks for the contextual help , that makes a lot more sense

heres the result so u can see I have made a result.

1.6.6a is the latest verson ( well the patch was ) !!

And Indi ...... looking good BUT, the brickwork looks too plain and even. Try adding a little light source and shading to the bricks and the grout.

Im happy with the brickwork for now but my gf pointed out something important. ivy creeps upwards so i have to redo the bottom area with a creeping up vine.

thanks for your help simple, it really did the trick to move on.
