Hey all.

I've recently decided to brush up on my modelling skills. So I chose to redo a head model of one of my characters. I chose Lythis.
I've redone the headmodel and reworked it with edgeloops. I'm quiet pleased with the mesh at the moment. However, I know there is always something to improve on. I might consider making this model a 'cinema' version.

Incase you dont remember, here are a few renders of Lythis as her game model stands now:

http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythis1.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythis2.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythis3.jpg

Copy and paste those into a new browser. The above model is also open to constructive crit. If I get the feeling your words are motavated by anything other then a helpful spirit...I'll break you in 2!

Ok and here is the face as it stands:

http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythisWire1.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythisWire2.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/brenttallgesse1708/lythisWire3.jpg

Untextured yes. I know. I'm mainly concerned of getting my geo to flow to the contors of the face. I'm thinking of making the face more adult like..but right now I consider her 'cute'. The nose needs work I know, but this is my first try to do edgeloops with LW.

Arras, oh master of human form come to me with divine visions!!

Comments, And Critiques gentlemen and ladies!

BTW I'm using a pluging called EdgeTool. I dont know if it's anything like EdgeLoops in other package but it's darn useful!

Just a quick thought, instead of posting six links, why not make a simple gallery page and simply post that link? (and use the html link feature to boot)

(Yeah, I might be lazy, but I've been called worse.)

Whoa.....breath taking....masterful.....weightless.

Care to give me something useful? Like say..critique..or something more valid then a personal observation of taste?

wery well made, for me perhaps bit too much poly but nice modeled woman head.

I think eyes are OK.

her nose is also totaly OK (proportions are right) but if you fell like, you can add some detail to lower part.

But I would also say that texture is not at the same level of detail as mesh, so even head is modeled quit detaily, when you texture it it looks bit flat in expresion and more simple than it is in fact.

So if you are pleased with mesh than you have reason for so (I think you can be even proud a little bit )
Get your texture at the same quality like mesh and there will be nothing to critique...
Keep up good work...

I think you should bring the hair closer to the eyes cause it looks like she has a big forhead...other than that it looks awsome, maybe you should put some ear rings or something.

very nice job

two problems i have with it...
a) she seems to be very thin depthwise, i know she is suppose to be skinny but just looks a little wierd without atleast SOME meat on them bones
b) her eyes kinda make he look like a retard, don't mean that in a nasty way - just make them a little larger, add some more feminine shape to them, perhaps put them a bit closer together (you know what people say about people with eyes to far apart )

apart from that its alright

I think that problem with eyes is not in way they are modeled but the way they are textured. I am sure Brent_Seraphim was useing reference picture when modeling.

I think it looks fine, the lack of texture (thus lack of eyebrows) might be throwing people off.

perhaps but i still think the eye are just shaped wrong
i'd say to yank in the bridge of the nose...

that whole are could stand to loose quite a few vertex/faces without much loss - too much poly detail in an area that doesn't need it really.

Looks pretty good. Like a gothic chick or something. Although, no harm intended (I only looked at the first picture, so you might have fixed it...), but her stomach looks flat. (at least in the first picture, that is...) I'll look at the others...

Okay... I'm not a 3d modeler, but you did ask for comments. So... I gotta say that the stomach bothers me. Might just be the texture or lack of... Good work, either way.

Destroy you with my mind, I could!

Looks nice.

A few ideas - the forearms look slightly odd. Too long realitive to upper arms? Or maybe the upper arms are too short... Also the arms are a little "conical" where they come down to the hands.

Stomach looks a little odd too

But all in all nice.

Have to agree. May be Brent_Seraphim was trying to keep everything in edgeloops too much. In low poly modeling they are not so important...

Looking good brent, only I notice a few things

A) The shoulder to arm texture transition doesnt match up at all. The creases are great, but they just dont match up.

B) The area where it goes from shirt to arm is kinda odd. The shirt looks a little big then the arm is so small.

C) Her stomach is so white! No matter how pale someones skin is, they are never gonna have it that white. Just a little bit of a burn tool gradually to the side of the stomach would fix it right up. The lack of light is causing a lack of debth in the object.

D) The face looks great, but one thing. Her ear makes a part in the hair, that stays parted throughout the length of her hair. Usually, the hair will come back together a little ways down. Just thought it looked a bit funny.

E) It seems as if there are too many creases in the groin area. It just seems too dark compaired to the rest of the model.

F) Her legs seem to lack shape...I dunno they just seem too flat Maybe a different angled shot?

G) Her shoulders look too pointy in the close up shot.

EDIT - Oops one other thing! In the first picture, look at the brest on your right. There is what seems to be a poly coming out of it, its not there in the other shots, but thats just weird! /EDIT

I love the texture job, and the model is great. Just some small things that I noticed I wish I could model/texture as good as you do Someday,,,someday

Great job Brent

RPGamer

PS - Are my crit skills getting better? I made a post http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=18452&b=3 on the Do's and Don't's of C&C, Brent if you would add voice your opinion it would be great

Arras:

Yes! You have arrived! I intend to add to the nose, but at the moment I'm paranoid about keeping quads. Edgeloops are new to me.If the nose proves to be a problem I'll use texture to compensate.

Allso about the polycount. I've got lower poly versions in other layers.. I'll see if I can't go back to them, or find a place where I can label one version as 'game' and the other as 'cinema'.

Quote: "I am sure Brent_Seraphim was useing reference picture when modeling. "

I wish I had . I pictured a girl I know and did it from memory and logic. I do intend to make the eyes more 'girlish' And and larger. I think I'm missing some general porpotion of the eyes. As Raven made mention of.

Raven:

Thanks for stopping by I do see the need for more curves . I'll go back and add to the mesh. when I orginally thought of her I thought : Weak, frail, lithe. I used lithe to decide her name. I'm sure she's thin enough for an elf. Now I have to scour the dregs of the internet for some...curves...refrence pictures..I mean refrence pictures!!! And about the standing to lose ploys...refer to my message to arras. Thanks for the input. I'll add depth!

LuckyDevil:

Thanks man. I used the big forehead to hopeful add a child like element to her. I'll see what I can do with the hair...perhaps it will give more of a hidden effect to the eyes.

Beta 1:
I'll check my propotion with something other then my memory
Time to break out fineart.sk! Thanks for the tip.

RPGamer:

About that blasted Seam...When I was doing the uv mapping I felt I would lose quality in those areas so I put a seam there. I'll go back to my files and try to make the folds add up.

With point C) I'll make it look good (Insert depraved grin).
And about that tweaky breast poly. I didnt triple it to do a render.
Just a little LW bug. When it's tripled it disappears. Yeah the legs dont have much def. I know I know. I tried to save polys. I'll do that when I add 'curves!" And yes your doing much better! Everyone has given pure critial crit! I love that stuff!

To all I am very grateful for the comments and crit. Thanks. I'll take them to heart and improve what I can. The new texture will be good...now I just have to chase that girl down with a digital camera... crap!

Cheers

Brent_Seraphim>>> Dont forget to post that digital pictures on forum

...just joiking...

[href]www.fineart.sk[/href] is exelent for reference pictures
Another exelent site is http://3d.sk/ there are only reference pictures there. If you are not member You can get just low res ones but for low poly modeling they are sufficient enough.
