Hi,
I'm trying to decide whether to purchase dark basic or not. What is the difference between DBC and DBP. I want to get the beginners guide, but I understand it is not for DBP.

OK.
firstly, I apologize for asking a question that is so obviously answered on this very website. I do, however, have one other question. I'm (eventually...like after a year or two of learning) planning on making a 2d RPG similar to that of FF3, or SOM. I want it to have playable movies similar to FF anthologies, however. This is something I will be working on when the time comes, though. My question is this: Which would be better for someone who doesnt intend to initially work with 3d programming? (i may eventually, but not at the moment.)
And don't worry, I don't have any illusions of becoming a pro at this over night...the learning part is half the fun, if you ask me.

DBPro would offer better 2D performance (better framerate) than Dark Basic but they both use the same commands. The downside of DBPro is the steep system requirements although within another year those requirements won't seem so bad. If you have the means I would recommend DBPro just to stay ahead of the curve.

Ok,
One other question. I had a post similar to this question, but its been removed. After i read the forum rules, i understood. Here's the question: If i buy the DB guide book, will the book still help me just the same in DBP? In the other post, the person who responded said that it was different in certain ways. Thanks in advance

there are language differences between dbc and dbp, if you are ultimately going to get dbp, I wouldn't recommend reading/learning dbc.

Ok. Aside from the forum, there are good learning tools out there for DBP, correct? (If so, can you give me some info on them?)

you might want to give the codebase a try.

If you aren't at all familiar with the Dark Basic language then the book may be a good investment for you. There are some differences between Dark Basic and DBPro but when it comes to the general syntax those differences are few and minor. If you know Dark Basic then you know DBPro, it's that simple.
