Hello again.

My game so far goes very very well (Eye of the Beholder 4) , I have to say and now I start learning the language well. I would like to create one torch light effect , when party is one dark dungeon and arround everything is very dark and in you see only the area you move your mouse.
And using one shaded image as mask in grayscale and the white pixels will be the pure light and gray pixels will be the darker area.
And when my torch running out , the spot area becomes more darker.

I thing you can understand what I say.

And where do I find good shaded masks to use them as my torch light effect?

Thank you very very much

Is it a 2d overlay you want for your torchlight visibility?

if you have a friend with photoshop, or someone at school with a digital art department, this can be easily made yourself.

Create a black layer, then using the eraser tool with a blurry brush you can erase a circle with a reasonable gradient from transparent to black. save it as a png.

Load it as a sprite and position it with your mouse movement.
The transparency should be automatically taken care of.

I've attached an example.

Is that what you wanted?

Your image works well , but I tried to create my own and didn't work.

I used paint shop pro and I created one square image 200x200 pixels
and I draw some circles inside with brush , but when I put it as sprite in my game the image appeared solid without transparent shadow as yours , is in necessary to use photoshop?

I just create one image and I saved it as .bmp

Is any easy program which create gradient mask in any shape? not just circle.

The technique with photoshop and png worked ,
I was created as .bmp and didn't worked.

I tried in paintshop pro and didn't worked. (Even I was saved it as .png)

Is it possible to make my torch effect blinking and changing color blend to red , giving the torch fire blinking effect.
Thank you...

your game looks pretty cool. nice work

edit: The transparent shadow effect comes from the blurry brush in photoshop, it just leaves some pixels undeleted leaving a combination of the image and the background when viewed.

you can get the same effect by zooming in and manually deleting pixels, however this would be time consuming.

for the blinking firelight,

you could try making an animated sprite for your mask layer.

create a png with a grid (say for example 5 x 5) in each square place your transparent light shape, even change the outline a bit to get a flickering edge for the shadows and light.

In another layer add the colors for your glowing effect over the frames to create an animation sequence and set the color layer to be semi transparent. save as a png.

ive added an image to give you the idea, however this example pixture looks pretty crap when its animated, I just made it to visually express the idea.
hope this helps

This game blows me away! WOW! Your are one skilled person, great job. As for the torch light try and find some graphics online to give you an idea. Some free sprites might help you get an idea.

Thank you very very much , I have a lots of surprises in next versions. When I finish some playable demo I will post it in showcase section in the forums. (I thing I have already one post of my game in showcase , but have been locked , because no ones post something for a little time) , this doesn't means , I stopped my project.

Is little inconfortable here in the forums the threads autolocked if someone doesn't post for a while. And then if you have create something and you want to say or add something you can't.

These forums are great , people here are great , but the automatic post lock mechanism is ridiculous.

Without the automatic post lock anybody could post in any message... including the very first message on the Darkbasic forums. To preserve the past and to prevent old messages from resurfacing because of lazy lets-not-look-at-the-date-of-this-message newbies the autolock was started. The autolock is a good thing.
