I just read on slashdot that Alias has just released Maya as a free download for non-commercial applications.

This means that if you want to try out maya before you want to buy or just practice you can, just remember to buy it if you want to use your creations commercially.

Opps its just the limmited shareware version of the lastest version Maya 5.0

but hay still good to play around with.
