I just recently decided to try DBPro and "upgrade" to a more powerful language than Game Maker's gml. Anyways, I was wondering how you would lay out your player, enemies, scenery, etc. in/for a DarkBASIC game. It is hard to believe that you just name each sprite's x and y without being able to actually see what you are doing. Hopefully someone understand what I'm getting at. Thanks

DBPro is a programming language rather than a visual design tool. So in it's raw form you do exactly what you describe. However there are additional tools such as X-quad to assist visually.

Yeah, usually a good thing to do is get a decent map editor or modeling program to build your worlds in and then export it. I know there are a few...thingies...out there somewhere that you can use to auto-build a collision map for your map and use in DBP, but I don't have the links on-hand right now.

If you're feeling brave (probably not recommended since you appear to have only very recently purchased DBP), you could just code your own graphical editor to build a 3D map in DBP. I'm currently working on something like that, which simply writes the code for the map generation to a .txt file, as well as the collision code, but it's hit somewhat of a hitch for the moment.

I'll play around with something or other and post here again and get back to you.

Well, my advice, make your own editor. That's what I did. It will teach you a lot of the basics and managing all the objects and art assets before you jump into AI, Collision and the sorts.

@BatVink: Okay that was the answer I was looking for, thanks. I'm quite use to having a built in visual design tool with the programming language so DarkBASIC will stretch me.
@Tom: I know, I was looking around in the forums and a it is hard to find a decent map editor. I'll look forward to seeing what you have made.
@Sph!nx: Haha, I didn't want to except the truth but you are right. I'm sure I can use the practice.
