Developer:Bugsy

Story Line:
Marking the beginning of the episodic series "OPS", The New and Improved "Favela" sees an elite squad of trained killers into a militia-infested war zone deep in Brasil to extract an important package from underground. Soon, you find yourself alone and unbelievably outnumbered on what seems to be a suicide mission. Do you have the mettle to make it out alive?

Description:
Ridiculously over the top gunfights are balanced out by vertigo-inducing high-altitude platforming sequences in this episode of OPS. you'll spray and pray at enemies in close proximity as much as you'll make daring leaps of faith between precarious ledges.

Images
Level 1
(Still HEAVY Work in Progress. all of these screenies are taken from accessible points in the level, just so you can get a sense of how the platforming will play!)

Pretty awesome work dude. I immediately saw the similarities between this and Favela on MW2. Now only if you could increase
the bloom some way to give it an even better outdoors feel.

For FPSC you've done a phenomenal job creating an outdoor environment, especially something unique and creative with a defined atmosphere. Very interested in seeing more - down the road though, a demo would certainly do it justice.

Best of luck to you.

No problem!

Also, is this going to be like a singleplayer series? Or are they multiplayer maps? Either way it looks great and i agree with everything Braden said!

excuse me I'm tearing up a bit.
*sniff*
thank you for the kind words

Quote: "Also, is this going to be like a singleplayer series? Or are they multiplayer maps?"

either/or. I was thinking of doing loosely related single player mini-games as "episodes" chronicling the adventures of a hired mercenary. if a certain single player episode got fairly popular, I'd make a multi-player version with the maps.

Awesome! Either/or is fine by me, i personally would turn one of them into a multiplayer map because of these reasons:

1. There are NO multiplayer games for FPSC, and by that i mean something i would want to play a lot

2. You clearly have great level design, so making a popular multiplayer map should be easy for you. Im not saying it should take 5 minutes, im just saying you could do a better job than most

3. I [i]really[/b] want a multiplayer game for FPSC, i have tried and tried but i just cannot think of any good ideas for a multiplayer map. You obviously have some great ideas, so making a multiplayer map may be easier for you!

Anyways, those are just my quick little thoughts. If you want to make one go for it, if not im not going to die

Looks very good Bugsy! You've done some very fine work here.

Though, I must point out. The buildings in the background look as thought they have been ripped from Valve's Source engine.

I'm unsure where you got them from though it would be a very good idea to change them. Though if you downloaded them from a pack I suggest you inform the creator of the pack.

Sorry that this is my first post on your game. Though it does look genuinely brill

Wow.
This is probably the best outdoor scene I've ever seen in FPSC. Not only does it look convincing, but it also looks like a blast to play through. The colors do it a great amount of justice. Can't wait to see more!

@Thoughtwire
It does indeed look a bit like that, but the one you circled in yellow is shorter in the first shot than in the second... but then, the textures could have been edited, or the models.

Cheesehead for life.

He's just showing the textures on brushes - the textures do look exactly the same as the ones that Bugsy used on his models.

They do help the scene a lot, perhaps there are other building models you could find around the forums however? Or in model packs? I know Cosmic Prophet had an old building pack, of simple square blocks. They might be worth checking out just to see if they fit the environment.

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

I got them from mega upload in a download called "massive texture pack for fpsc" I'm not sure if they're blatant rips, or just inspired by the valve textures. I'll replace them if need be.

They just look stretched on the y axis and washed out a tiny bit in color. Your call though - I just personally wouldn't want my entry in this competition riding on a little detail like that. Best to be certain.

Keep it up though, hope to see more progress soon.

@ Bugsy It would probably be best to change them. I don't want your game disqualified over something this trivial.

Again, brilliant work thus far.

Only thing that I have to say is that the ground texture is a bit repetitive... But yes the outdoor scee youve got there is great! Reminds me a bit of half life!

EDIT:

Some old run down billboards like these would look cool, fit in your scene, and give the scene a bit more life too:

Not that they have to be car related but it would be cool nonetheless...

I agree with Hamburger, the texture needs to be more seamless if that makes sense... If you want one i got one that might look good! Except i might not be able to get it today as again, im not on my FPSC computer..

@2beastmode4u - Im guessing they are not from a model pack, Bugsy probably made them in some modeling program and then textured them. Actually, now that you brought that up, Bugsy want to make a building model pack? XD Just another suggestion

as long as they were low poly boxes, that would be awesome. I keep strict polygon limits on my games, to make sure it stays well optimized. I can't waste lighting memory or polygons on background towers designed to cordon off areas.

You could just make them on planes with the girders being textures with alpha channels... Like a cardboard cutout billboard. I could make some low poly ones for you (I'm good at low poly modeling)

This is actually proving to be vary dificult (texture wise, hard to find a good mountain picture without it looking weird...)... Sorry bugs but I just cant find a good enought texture of a mountain landscape... Maybe you should look at rolfy's skybox packs... They'd look better than billboard models anyway...

Nice job!

You may have not noticed it, as it's not that obvious in the screen, but you can see the end of the map, I know, alot of people will not notice it, but I'm a professional and I always notice stuff like this.

missing the Pão de Açúcar and Morro da Urca yet

rio-favelas are very much a labyrinth, in some places never in daylight and very small streets, and as on the mountain pic very high builded, layer on layer. you can save performance in doing this, using a stuffed but small map and go in more height than in wide, starting the player at the highest point reachable.

perfect places for armed parcour on the roofs, yeah^^

looks very nice.

thanks maho! my dad who is from brasil has been telling me about the nasty areas and showing me pictures. as much as I'd like to have them that hilly and stuffed, fpsc isn't made for such terrain-filled maps. I've had to make more open air market-ish areas like playgrounds and such.

I'm starting to have second thoughts on this sort or project, as it seems that the extravagant level design has led to some very difficult challenges in crafting good shooting gameplay. in short, over the top parkour makes over the top gunfights very difficult to work out, as enemies, even though currently more advanced, aren't very smart.

I may or may not be scrubbing this and starting over, or working on revamping it a little bit.

I just don't know. I may at very least change out the guns for more satisfying gunplay. I wanted to do something with EAI rigs

we'll have to see. as for the video, it's really pissing me off, I tried uploading it 3 separate times today

Are you trying to upload it to youtube? I can upload your video if you want? I need more stuff on my channel -___-

Why don't you use the scar? That was in Alpha Project? Or did he make that? Or just maybe any gun from mp9&10? I can do some sounds and modding and such.. Check out my channel if you want!

Anyways, it's your choice if you want to scrap it or not. Either way, you will end up with a good game i know it
