Hi folks

I can run most examples (as provided in the standard help menu). The problem is that if I copy one into a blank .dba window to mess with - it always refuses to 'compile & run'. For a split second a black window appears in the middle of my screen and quickly vanishes. The output window (at bottom) shows 0 errors and just one warning "no icon is specified for the final exe".

What am I doing wrong ??. The same problem exists if I type in something daft such as..

print "help"
do
print " now"
LOOP

Regards

It sounds like the normal admin priv problem. Check you have DB to run as administartor. Right click on your db icon and in the compatibility tab make sure run as admin is selected. You can also go into advanced and make sure it runs the same for any user if you wish.
Also make sure you have the latest version of DB installed, as the older ones will not compile in Windows 7 with new updates. It doesn't sound like that one though. That comes up with parameter incorrect.

Thanks DVader, made the admin change.

After posting my problem I shut down dbpro and restarted it, typing in commands manually worked fine. Maybe copying lines from the help examples is not a good idea ! (shame).

Think something else is also going on here....

Just tried to load a simple test Untitled1.dba ,running it gave the old flashed up black window then nothing.

I then loaded another (Untitled2.dba) and clicked the x on the tab of the previous one. Trying to run the new one gave "Could not read source file c:\~ Untitled1.dba" !?. My screen is showing Untitled2.dba !. I'm clicking on the little green arrow (save, compile & run)

<sigh>

The "Green Arrow" when bringing up examples from the help doesn't work for me either (Windows 7 Home Premium). I don't even see a black window though. I get the window that pops up when you launch DBPRO highlighting the certified plugins,, and that's it. Just hangs there.

Hmmm, one thing I have noticed...

DBpro seems unhappy to recognise your current .dba (even if it's the only one in the editor) UNLESS is is referenced as part of the current project in the left side panel (when showing 'solution explorer') AND set as 'main file'.

If this is not the case it can be compiling and running your previous code !

Sorry of most of you see this as obvious

Regards...

My problem is fixed with using the latesr RC update.
You'd think I've been around long enough to realize that, but that's what happens when your away for a while. I forgot I installed and never got around to updating DBpro.

All examples I've tested seem to work now! Imaging that..

I basically have the same problem has above but, all programs are ran as admin. The system has all updates for windows7 ultimate and DBpro.

Print "Hello World!"

wait key

end

Now this should create a window and wait for a key to be press before closing. Right

Well it compiles correctly, and a window appear briefly.

I also noticed in Task Manager that Console Window Host process is ran for each time I ran the executable but it is never shutdown.

Which is telling me that the window is open and is waiting to be closed.

I wonder if it has something to do with my black background.

I will check and see.

I went back to version 1.054 of Dark Basic Pro, the Hello World program, works with Windows 7 with all updates.
Now will add update 7.1:
Update 7.1: did full screen and all windowed screens of Hello World.
Added Update 7.2, and ran Hello World with success.
Added Update 7.3, and ran Hello World with success.
Added Update 7.4, and ran Hello World with success.
Added Update 7.5, and ran Hello World without success.

Did a little debugging the window appears in step through program mode but after exiting the message from Dark Basic Pro saying compilation failed. Being stubborn I had it complied anyway successfully. When ran, get error:
The parameter is incorrect

Well decide to try some of the Demos spheremapping demo works in debug step thru mode but not in run mode

I know that 1.075 of Dark Basic Pro works on my laptop running Win XP Prof 5.1.2600 service pack 3 build 2600

Dark Basic Prof with update 7.4 works on my desktop running MS Win 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601.

I will try another system.

But I believe it has trouble with DX. on the 64 bit systems

Well, after getting my laptop to work with update 7.61. copy the entire folder over to the development system. Uninstalled DarkBasic Pro. I reinstall 1.54 than copied the than copied over the whole directory with the folder containing the working copy of 7.61.

Now I have my window appearing.

I did noticed when doing this process some times the "dbpro_config.dll" would be either be deleted by the upgrade process or not installed by the processes.
