Kyoto Underground

Born and raised in Kyoto, by an American family, you, Shingo, and your sister Amelie were taught at a young age the importance of independence, and raised to use instinct before manners. It's a kill or be killed state of affairs in 23rd century Japan.

Growing up, martial arts and Parkour were two of your main hobbies, where most of your friends got into computers and business. Your sister was no slouch either. she kept up with you in Judo classes, and breezed through her business management studies. as soon as she finished school, she moved away from home into tokyo

Despite relying mainly on instinct, continuing the martial arts training taught you some much needed morals and self discipline. You became a good, functioning member of society...

Except for the fact that you were selected by the Earth Government to be an assassin.

Life was great, you never were called on to do so much as a single mission, and as long as you went to the monthly meeting, and weekly training session, you were kept housed and paid well. It all seemed like a perfect life until finally you were called upon for work. having lost contact with all family members, there was little to lose, so you did as instructed, and took a late night train into the heart of tokyo.

A penthouse hotel room with all of the information and weapons you would need was waiting for you.

Relations between opposing mafia families were becoming increasingly caustic, and you had been tasked with assassinating the leader of the Shinobi family. You had her address, and her dead-line: tonight. It was time to move.

Soon, you'll discover, killing your target isn't as easy as linining up a shot and pulling the trigger
=========================================================================================================

Description: Kyoto Underground is another idea I had for an episodic series. I came up with a good number of ideas for these, and I'm going to be releasing pilot episodes for each one to see how the forum likes them. this game promises lots of extreme parkour puzzles, with ridiculous 5 meter gaps and clibming, an intense atmosphere, and a good bit of fun

Are those signs animated? I really like the feel of the city dude!

Whoever said that Intel graphics fail, obviously never owned a Core i5.

they're not animated, they're placeholders. I'd sort of assumed that by the 23rd century, the world would have grown very dense in population, and the cities would start looking like clean versions of Kowloon. those are the rooftops.

very nice! I'm interested in seeing how you will implement a parkour style control into FPSC. Nice looking level design.

I wonder how this would look in efxmod.
If you add me on skype, I'd be glad to send you a video of the parkouring in action!

a quick test of the makeshift (so far) parkouring. this level is only a test where all of the different moves can be performed.

Well, I like it a lot and I think this will be great, but just one thing wasn't good for me. I dunno if that is possible, but could you model other hand so when guy is holding a gun that is other hand is visible? Anyway, nice video!

its not about the browser, its about youtube, SonyMusic and german GEMA (music rights association) that shuts down videos with music not permissioned . i could use a pirate-ip, but doesnt matter, looks great also on pics

Looks great, I love the lighting techinques you used, looks like an interesting futuristic city.
The gameplay looks fun, and I just have to ask you this:
How did you change the jumping height (sorry if it's a nooby question)? I've been needing that for one of my games but never knew how to do it.

well, here's how the parkour is done in kyoto underground (this because I haven't got a mod yet)

first, a trigger zone saying that the player's newjumpheight=80 at all times. this way he can clear large gaps.

for any objects likely to be climbed, I add triggers around them that say when entered, make the player's jump height 100, and I make sure to not put there where they can be exploited.

there are also small collision barriers on walls so that the player can climb multiple segments.

seriously guys? there should be nothing wrong with that. I think it's the most innovative possible way to take this project. I'm planning 8 player team deathmatch, and the scripts for the parkour will remain by being in the weapon's appear scripts.

Has ANYONE ever played an FPSC multiplayer game for fun???

I have tested some MP maps out of curiosity but I never would have actually initiatet an MP game with friends.

And for me personally making a MP FPSC game is just an excuse to skip the tedious story, gameplay and bughunting steps and put up a map as a full game.

A map that probably wouldn't work with several added dynamic entities.

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^

well, what if I chose to set up some get-togethers where we played. I've made the map as balanced and symmetrical as possible, and I'll first do a small beta get-together via some friends over skype, so we can get things ironed out on who hosts and whatnot, then from there, we'll set up times when we'll have organized games.

You said that artstyle shold look like ME an Human Revolution. If I am right, both games are singleplayer-only? And story is sounding good, and MP would destroy this awesome parkour game idea.

Actually I see this has a whole lot of potential for both SP and MP. I would like to see how you balance out the Multiplayer part Wray!

By the way if you need a tester, you know where to find me.

.. Isn't the idea that anyone could create any kind of game he or she wants. No limits. But it's true as you said that fpsc MP is not the best kind of form of gaming. Alltough it could be fun if there is some parkour action and shooting.

Maybe you can create a MP map later on.

Or maybe, you can just release SP campaign, and then later release MP. Neither SP or MP only, and people and you are content.

completely untrue, if parkour's fun in single player, it'll be awesome in multiplayer! (see: Urban Terror)

tester number 1- abdul

there is no "single player campaign", the only reason I'm releasing these little minigames and not updating WWC is because I want to see what type of game the forum likes best- a modern day shooter or a sci fi multiplayer platformer. that way when WWC's done I'll know what to make more episodes of.

Looks GREAT, really reminds me of Deus Ex. Will this be completely linear, because it looks like a perfect setting for a bit of freedom.

And I do, wanna love you... And I do, wanna try...
Because if falling for you girl is crazy, then I'm going out of my mind.
So hold back your tears this time...

Non-linearity would be great, but the 1.8 GB level cap makes it very hard for a developer to achieve that. I would be satisfied with railroaded fun

it's multiplayer now if you guys haven't read.

so no it won't be linear, the map will be pretty wide, and symmetrical.

I've uploaded the first alpha test. don't worry about light-level and stuff, I just need some people who want to play to help me test, and request that they be of average skill level in multiplayer games

(if your kill death ratio is higher than your GPA, you need not apply)
(if it's lower than your blood alcohol content, please stay out as well.)

I'm looking for people around 0.8-1.2 to keep things feeling balanced. 5 applicants necessary. must have skype. we'll make a group chat to determine when the alpha game will be. one of you must be able to reliably host an FPSC game.
