hi all,

Im making my models in blender that will create my whole level. Before I start writing code to import them all I was wondering how best to do this. I've been playing around with some test code but I've got a few questions.
Firstly, whats the best way to position different models in my level. For example, if I have sections of my level as different models? Do I have to use the 'position object' type commands, or is there a way of doing it on import/loading?

Secondly, I'm going to use effect files (.fx files if I remember right) to achive normal mapping. Is there any advice I could get on this please? do I specify the textures in the fx file, do I need their file paths in the .fx or is it achived in another way?

Thanks for taking the time to read,
Rich

Not a Blender fan myself. You should have a look at this thread and it should help you with exporting to DBP:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=166987&b=3

Be default, models are loaded at world coordinates 0.0,0.0,0.0. You cannot position them using the LOAD OBJECT command and need to use the POSITION OBJECT command. When you load the models in depends upon personal preference; you can load in all of the media at first and position everything and hide the levels/parts that aren't needed or you can load levels as the player progresses through the game.

As to normal mapping, my understanding is that Blender has the ability to generate normal maps. Search on the forum and you should be able to find something that will help you. .fx files are simply to create special effects and I can't say that I remember anyone generating a normal map from a .fx file.

Hope this is helpful.
