2D All the way! / perlin noise worms terrain - how to???

i'm tinkering with writing a worms (team 17 - not nokia snake!) game. Currently, i'm generating the backgrounds by random height lines.

What i'd ideally like to do is use perlin noise, so i can have caverns etc.

Does anyone have some sample source to do this sort of thing? I've googled for days, with no joy.
