Andy Rubin (famous Android guy) just announced that 700.000 new Android devices are activated every day. And there's even a clarification that they only count each device once.

That's 81 per second. It also means that more than 0.1% of the whole world's population buys a new Android device every day. Or a 1/3 of the population in less than a year. I wonder how many people buy a new phone every year. It's insane.

When i got my new phone last saturday, the salesman was realy suprised that I had kept my old phone for 3 and a half years...

The thing with Android is that there are a handful of companies releasing multiple Android devices every year. They are in all sizes and prices, including tablets.

Earlier this month Samsung announced that they had sold 300M mobile handsets this year, that's more than 850k per day. Of course, far from all of them are Android based, but you get the idea.

And not counting the Chinese clones.... there are thousands of those devices selling for 60-80euros
