If you have a plain textured with a chess board, what's the best way to find out which square was clicked on?

I'm thinking about having corner of plain at 0,0,0 and getting x, z location of where plain was clicked on, then dividing that with the width of the squares to get which square.

What's the smallest unit size in DarkBASIC Pro? I'm thinking I'll need 8 times this size to get an 8 x 8 chess board.

Thanks for any help getting started,

You can make a matrix 8x8 instead of a plain.
