I just bought DBPro and tried running through the fps tut that is in the book and in the help. BUT it wouldn't run even though i cut and pasted the code right out of the help. Anyone else have these problems? DBpro seems to be a great app but i'm a newb whenit comes to programming and i was hoping i wouldn't have to debug the tutorials that the thing comes with.

make sure you have all the updated files for:

DBP (one for program, and one for editor, two files)
DBP help files (if you want them)

@Genesis Rage,The Coding Area,CattleRustler: hehe, you're all diagnoseing his problem with insufficient information.

@Corporal Tunnel: Does it give you an error message or does it crash?

It tries to run but hits errors. there are like 5 errors in the code as far as i can guess. I copied and pasted the code so i don't think it was my syntax. I have DX9 and i upgraded the dbp pro to 5_1b. Maybe the editor is needing upgrade? But it seems to be problems in the code. I dunno. I'm a prog newb.

I got everything upgraded but still get errors.

71 if wrapvalue(camera angle x(0))>40 and wrapvalue(camera angle x(0))180 then xrotate camera 0,40
72 if wrapvalue(camera angle x(0))>180 and wrapvalue(camera angle x(0))280 then xrotate camera 0,280

the error says #100007: variable ''name is not valid at line 71.
and the same for 72. i dunno.

yes thats the tut from manual, rem out the two lines - they are not needed

bsp is black because you need to extract the wad textures as tga to game directory - get WALLY for this - read bsp threads, lots of info there

ok sorry for being such a newb. I found that there is a bsp file.actually i found that the source for the tut is in there too.
here's the clincher: it doesn't work!!! I get an error that says
Runtime Error 7151 - Could not load BSP file at line 282. I noticed that the code in the book uses"/" when it is loading stuff and the tut source uses "\" i am wondering which is proper but it doesn't seem to be the reason this isn't working since it did recognize that i was trying to load a bsp file. hmm

Anyone know why it wouldn't be able to load the bsp if the names are exactly the same? It is the BSP that came with DBP so I wouldn't think that it would be corrupt or something.
Any suggestions to cure my newbitis?
