Hello,

Are these possible in Dark Basic Pro -

Special Maps: Normal Map, Gloss Map, Glow Map, Specular Map, Diffuse Map, Emissive Map etc. ?

If yes then how ? If not then is there any workaround ?

Thanks,

Yes. You'll probably need to do some research on shaders to get them working. Look up evolved's ultimate shader pack. There is some great stuff in there. Also, there is an amazing shader thread at the top of this board.

Juggernaut

Hi again, just want to say, ease down on the multi threads, perhaps start a Juggernaut's Many Questions thread instead...[I plan on doing this pretty soon as I too have and will have even more so it just makes it nicer for everyone to keep all these questions in one thread and I agree if you say it might make things confusing but you should set some rules for your thread hehe] some [not me] get annoyed with individuals creating many threads in the same board... and it does in fact puts them down [not that I care much as I do not view the boards I use RSS and also if I do I have 100 on view...]

so just a friendly caution

But yeah there are many options for effect maps, just needs quite a bit of work

Never seen some of those maps (gloss map, specular map & so on), but you are able to set things like your diffuse and emissive, check out the 'Basic 3D' section of the help file. For the maps, you'd probably need to learn to write shaders.

However, for normal maps, there's a built in bump mapping command, it isn't as great as other normal mapping shaders, however, there are shaders in the Ultimate Shader Pack, you ought to be able to get a normal map shader using Dark Shader and Evolved's Website is a FANTASTIC resource for DBP specific shaders (complete with sample code).

@MrValentine
multi thread will be more useful than huge thread for later newbies.

p.s. I hate learn to write shaders thread as it became huge mess! I think it must be a separate shader FORUM.

@Never seen some of those maps
When you have unwrapped model you really need this for multimaterial effects.

Gloss Maps and specular map kind of go hand in hand. I think some shaders need them both in the same image; specular in the RGB channel, and Gloss in the Alpha. And don't forget about sub-surface scatter (sss) maps.

Multi-Threads are better since it allows people to know what the thread is about without having to read through everything to decide if assistance can be provided.

It allows people with the same or similar problems to find the thread and discover the solutions given.

Sixty Squares actually compiled most of the shader files from the "Learning to write Shaders thread" into the thread linked below:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=175275&b=1
Edit: fixed link

While some of the shaders were mainly forum members' work in progress, there are a few completed one.

One that would interest you a lot is Shader #113 by revenant chaos, it has normal map, specular map, ambient lighting and emissive map features. Perfect for a nice detailed sword with glowing ingravments carved in.

Edit 2: Corrected typo

If I were Chris K I'd place that link into my first post on the Learning to Write Shaders Thread.

Thanks for reminding me of its existence.

@cyril: You just showed me what I was looking for ...... Many thanks to you. I will have to go through the shaders and specially the one mentioned by you ........ because I want to push the Dark Basic Pro's rendering quality to commercial grade end results.

I did visit the thread about learning to write shaders many times - but unfortunately every time I got lost ....... it seemed like entering a puzzle maze and your post just got me a bulk of fresh air to carry on with Dark Basic Pro.

Thanks,
cyril

Your welcome. But Sixty deserves the credit for compiling the list. I just unearthed it while searching for a Lightmap+PPlighting shader a few months back.

I wish Dark Basic Pro had native support for per pixel lighting, soft shadows ..... just a wish .... .... maybe some day it will turn true.
