do you have to use a $ to define a string var...

...like in QBasic?

Yes, I think so. If you take out the $ it is an integer (whole number). Try this:

so the answer is no for the silly symbols like $ and #

strMyString as string
fltMyFloat as float

or

x as string
y as float

can be definied as such, whatever fltFloats your btBoat
