How high is your camera off the ground? Does this matter at all? Mine is 40. I have an outdoor level about 30,000 by 30,000 world units. This is only the test level, the actual game levels will be much bigger. Are these big numbers a problem?

The best way to understand how your numbers will preform is by experimentation. I don't have a straight answer to your problem, but I do know that I'd look at the results to see if they fit what idea I had in mind.

it all depends on how big you make your level and what scale... if doorways are 7 units high... camera height would be between 5.5 and 6 units high (for real-world perspectives)

but if your doorway was 10 units high... and camera at 4 units... it would look like you are really small... what i do is place some "cheat" codes into my code that allows me to change the character height on the fly... and see what the actual number is... so i can hard-code it in later

ive been scaling things to fit with the camera height of 40
what i want to know is if the huge numbers associated with that high camera height are a problem (larger models and larger numbers in calculations)

you probably wont encounter any problems unless your calculations go above or below +/- 2,147,483,648... that is for integer values! so you shouldnt come across any problems...

that is unless you are making a Half-Life clone, with ALL the levels in it... but have it only in ONE map file!
