Hi, I'm starting an RPG where objects will be placed on a 2d backdrop made out of tiles so I can make an enormous world. Could someone demonstrate to me any possible ways of doing this? Also, I'd like to be able to add a GUI over this displaying character info, etc.

Any help would be grateful.

Thanks,
Nick

i'm not good at programming but you could make a flat matrix or plane put a 2 like texture on it then let you 3d chars runaround on it it will look kinda like ( i think its either final fantasy 3 or 4)

Mmmm variables taste like chicken...

Sounds like you want to use sprites. Use SPRITE PRIORITY to set the various layers, with your GUI being the highest priority, i.e drawn last.
