It is a graphics library that is mult-platform, meaning it can theoreticly be used on Windows, Mac, and even Linux. It is mostly used in C++ programs.

DarkBASIC Classic / Pro uses DirectX, which is only compatible with Windows. Blitz Basic uses OpenGL.

ummm, probably something that your video card may or may not supporty, different versions for better or worse cards? this is a pretty wild guess, as i got an error trying to run a game once that my video card needed to support 1.2 OpenGL or higher... which it doesnt.
i could be completly wrong here, so dont wright and essay for school or the government on this info
its a guess, as i said

EDIT: I'd go with mattman.. he sounds more confident, as i only guessed

Open GL is an awesome creation that is sadly neglected. The coolest feature being: it runs on ALL platforms (Win/Mac/Linux/etc.).

To bad DB doesn't support it...
